A man slaughtered a big cow and roasted its meat. Then he said to his daughter:

‘My daughter, go and call our relatives, our friends, and our neighbors. Today is a day of joy and celebration.’

The girl went outside and shouted: ‘Please help us! My father’s house is burning!’

A few minutes later, only a small number of people came, trying to help, while many others pretended they didn’t hear anything.

Those who came sat down and ate the meat, enjoying themselves until late in the evening.

The father, surprised, looked at the people and asked his daughter:

‘Most of these people I don’t even know, and some I’ve never seen before. Where are our friends, our relatives, and our neighbors who I told you to call?’

The girl calmly replied: ‘The ones who came didn’t come to celebrate with us. They came because they thought we were in trouble. These are the people who truly care about us. These are the ones worth celebrating with.’

The lesson here is: Someone who doesn’t stand by you in hardship does not deserve to celebrate with you in success.
