There's so much love and support happening alongside righteous anger in these protests. Happy to have found one of my photos in this list of hope, although I wish the title used the word "images" instead of "moments" because they're not rare, especially among the black community.

An editor at my first job, a small-town newspaper, did not like to hear that any story was unworthy of visuals. He would send me to empty "crime scenes" and evacuated college buildings where fire alarms were pulled to avoid final exams. I would look around exasperated that there was nothing to photograph, but knew that if I didn't at least come back with a photo of the nothing, I would be hearing about it for days.

I thought of him during my first weekend back at the White House-- the only 2 days Trump cancelled his coronavirus briefings. But here is my photo of the nothing in the NYT! Thanks for the exasperation, Brett 😆

Last week I pitched this idea to Reuters, and two days later I was hanging with the Each Peach Market crew, documenting what it takes to run a botique grocery in a pandemic.

A tall, surgical mask-wearing young man stands at the entrance as customers line up outside. A sign at the door - illustrated with stick figures drawn by the co-owner's 6-year-old daughter - warns clients they can only come in three at a time.

Never thought I would be photographing my grandfather as a groom! He was married to a very sweet woman in a small Catholic ceremony yesterday, about two years after the passing of my grandmother.
