Taken on DC side of Potomac River just below the Key Bridge, which links Arlington, VA to Washington DC.

Taken at sunrise on a very calm day, creating a smooth river surface that enabled beautiful reflections.

Blue Ridge School

For nearly 20 years or so, I have been part of summer camps for children, teenagers, and families who deal with a rare genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis (NF). NF affects the nervous system, along with a host of other complications, NF causes tumors to grow on nerve endings. Affecting 1 in every 3,000 people.

Last year I returned to a camp that I first attended as a camper 20 years ago. I got up early on the first day before the campers arrived and stood on the small fishing pier by the lake. While the camp has been hosted at many different sites, one constant has always remained. The camps ability to change a life. Many of the friends I have made at the camp still remain to this day. My out look on life has also changed. I go back every summer to be an example and role model for the campers of not allowing NF to get in our way or stop us from achieving the life we want.

Samet Nangshe viewpoint overlooking Phang Nga bay in Thailand

I took this sunrise while traveling in Phuket, Thailand in 2025. It required a 4am wake up and 2 hour taxi to the destination, but was well worth it. The photo really does not do justice to the sublime horizon. A friend told me about this place, and I also rely on locals for inspirational locations. Taken with an iphone 14 (I'm as amateur as it gets).

Alexandria, Virginia

I tend toward wildlife and travel photography, but wanted to get in some practice photographing portraits. My husband is a Historic European Martial Arts (HEMA) practitioner, so I convinced him to dress for the part and meet me in the back yard. In this photograph he is holding a large targe shield with a reproduction of an Ewart Oakeshott Type 18 medieval Irish sword. The photo was taken in color, but due to the side light combined with my husband?s strong facial features, I immediately recognized the possibilities for a dramatic mono-tone portrait. In post-processing I desaturated all colors as is my norm for mono-tones, and moved the black and the white sliders to the max the histograph and my personal esthetics would allow.
