Covered the No Kings protest in Cape Girardeau last week — one of many across the country standing against authoritarianism and in defense of democracy.

From hand-painted signs to chants in the streets, the message was clear:

Democracy only works if we keep showing up for it.

More than 400 people gathered at Freedom Corner in Cape Girardeau on Saturday as part of the national “No Kings” Day of Defiance — a grassroots movement opposing authoritarianism and calling for the protection of democratic values, voting rights, and civic accountability.

Pride in the Park - a reminder that Pride is about more than visibility or celebration. It’s about love, safety and the simple but profound power of being surrounded by people who care.

Pride in the Park in Cape Girardeau brought together LGBTQ+ individuals and allies for a day of celebration, support and acceptance, highlighting the importance of safe spaces and community connection.
