This weekend feels different for me.

As a veteran, Memorial Day isn't just a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It's the day I stop and think about the men and women who gave everything so that the rest of us could keep going.

They didn't come home.

I did.

That weight never fully leaves you. And I think it shouldn't. Because remembering them is the least we can do.

To every Gold Star family reading this — thank you doesn't feel like enough. But please know that your loved ones are not forgotten. Not by me. Not today.

If you served alongside someone who isn't here anymore, I hope you find some peace this weekend. And if you know a veteran, maybe just check in on them. Sometimes this time of year is harder than it looks from the outside.

Today we honor the fallen. We say their names. We carry them with us.

As a veteran, Memorial Day isn't just a long weekend or the unofficial start of summer. It's the day I stop and think about the men and women who gave everything so that the rest of us could keep going.
