Like grains of sand on a beach, droplets of water in the ocean, and stars in the night sky, it's nearly impossible to imagine the number of wheat spikes there are in a field like this one.

Wheat fields neighboring my parents' home this weekend. It is so peaceful especially in the early evening as a gentle breeze creates those dynamic "amber waves of grain," much like a crowd at a sporting event. I also like to imagine every head of wheat stretching out to ensure they've got some of the spotlight for the camera (as the common group photographer saying goes... folks, if you can't see the camera, the camera can't see you!).

I haven't been out with my camera in months so it was refreshingly fun to photograph a crop duster acrobatically diving, turning, and climbing over and around trees and power lines in order to spray neighboring farmland this weekend at my parents' place in eastern North Carolina.

The first few minutes of yesterday's flight provided a magnificent bird's-eye view of the Wright Brothers National Memorial. The First Flight Airport is just west of the monument site.

One of the spots I flew over with OBX Airplanes LLC yesterday was the Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese, NC. I along with many other academic advisors from ECU visited this beautiful campus earlier this year (before COVID-19) to get a better understanding of the resources they provide for students interested in coastal & marine studies.
