My Sunday was TOO pretty. I spent the morning at .magnolia flatlay workshop and I am feeling beyond excited and inspired to style all the things. With little time on wedding days to really sit down to create & rearrange, I was so excited to pick her brain on ways to plan and maximize wedding day time & tips on what to add to my styling kit. ā˜šŸ» me laughing at everyone freaking out over Instagram & Facebook being down. Did anyone else have the most productive day ever? Sometimes I think I donā€™t spend much time on social media...then I realize how many tasks I accomplish when Iā€™m not 17 videos deep in The Voice auditions.

I was on the phone with my bride that is getting married at the end of this month and we started talking about a marriage book that she and her fiancĆ© read that I posted about on my stories (ā€œSaving Your Marriage Before It Startsā€). I told her Matthew and I loved the workbook because it helped us manage our expectations. Thatā€™s been one of our sayings and is one of our biggest lessons we love for marriage but also in business. Managing an expectation looks like telling your spouse you donā€™t feel like cooking but you will pick up food on the way. Letting them know you will be working a lot this week but want to take them out to dinner on Friday to spend time together. And so on it goes. The workbook we did along with the book helped layout all sorts of expectations from who takes out the trash to how many times a week you want to have s*x. It gets that specific because the reality is, conflict comes when the expectations (that we rarely speak out loud) arenā€™t met and then itā€™s an endless cycle of frustration. All of my worries when I moved my business across the U.S. were about finances and clients. Would California brides like me? Would I be able to book enough weddings? How much does pricing change relocating to the West Coast? And a million other questions. But the one thing that never crossed my mind was how much my editing and style would change. Obviously, I knew my scenery was going to physically change but what happens when you take away those crazy greens in the Southeast and replace them with rundown areas, rocks, pink skies and teal blues? I almost feel like I have had to relearn what my eyes see as beautiful & worthy to be captured. But isnā€™t that the most incredible thing? To continue to learn again and again to be willing & open to be molded into seeing beauty in things you havenā€™t before. I hope my photos isnā€™t the only place I can apply that.āœØ

I told all my friends I was on sabbatical the past two months because this is the longest break Iā€™ve ever had since I started shooting full time šŸ™Š And now Iā€™m looking at my calendar and my first 2019 wedding is next week and Iā€™m like SAY WHAT?! I dedicated January and February to all things backend business (workflows, taxes, projections, computer clean up, ALL THE THINGS) and a few shoots but I also did a lot of reading! šŸ‘šŸ» And yā€™all know Iā€™m not planning on slowing down, my favorite reads from the past two months are Shoe Dog and Small Great Things. And my favorite podcasts have been The Health Code and School of Greatness! Let me know what you are reading and listening to!
