Nine months. $15,000. No loans. WE DID IT WALLA WALLA!!!

We built Calliope Creative out of our own savings and the belief that this community deserved something real. Thursday it officially opens and we want you there.

Here’s what’s happening this week:

THURSDAY APRIL 2 -> GRAND OPENING
Ribbon cutting, celebration, and gift certificates at 30% off for one day only. Elopements included. Weddings excluded. Grab one.

Then stay for Nick Page’s very first art gallery reception. His work is on the walls and he deserves every single person who walks through that door. Come say hi. I love that guy.

FRIDAY APRIL 3 -> SEEING IN MONOCHROME
Our first ever guest instructor Art Fernandez is teaching a black and white photography workshop. Tickets still available. Do not sleep on this.

SATURDAY APRIL 5 -> FULL GALLERY DAY
Nick will be at the studio all day. Come talk art, photography, and cool things with him.

🤬 Every person who has ever told you that you’re not photogenic was a lying liar who lies.

It’s not your fault! You were just never taught how to work with your body, your light, or your space.

And on Sunday May 3rd, I’ll teach ya how.

The number of people walking around convinced they are unphotogenic when they’ve just never been shown the basics makes me genuinely melancholy. It’s super easy once you understand the foundations.

All bodies, all gender expressions, all skill levels are welcome to this quick and fun class. You deserve great photos. Not someday, but now!

All you need to bring is your phone and to grab a spot before they’re all gone.

And at the end of every Intro To Photography class, we go for a photo walk. Last week we learned how to do HDR and editing basics! My students are catching on SO quickly and I’m so proud of their dedication to learning how to use their cameras.

Head Shot Wednesdays happen every single Wednesday and REMEMBER next week we change prices! But if it has been 3 years since your last updated professional head shot, you really should get it updated.

Friends, the planters in front of Calliope Creative are ALIVE and blooming, and I am so happy about it.

A huge, heart full thank you to Anne Trunkey of who is keeping the front of the studio fresh and gorgeous. If you haven’t heard of her, now you have, and you’re welcome.

This community is something else. The way people just show up, want to collaborate, want to pour into something good. I don’t take it for granted for a single second. Truly.

🌸ONE MORE THING: Anne is looking for a college student who needs apprenticeship credits to come work with her at the flower farm. If you know someone who would love to spend time learning the art of growing and arranging and all of the business, that is a flower farm, please send them her way. Dream opportunity alert!

Black and white photography has this reputation for being serious and moody and complicated, and honestly it can be all of those things. But the real reason photographers keep coming back to it is simpler than that.

When you take color out of the equation, you have to actually look at what’s in front of you.

I’m genuinely excited about this one.

Art Fernandez is our first ever guest instructor at Calliope Creative, and he’s teaching Seeing in Monochrome on Friday, April 3, a 2-hour class on black and white photography that starts with how you see and ends with you walking away with a small set of frames you shot yourself, in studio or on a downtown photo walk.

You don’t need a film camera to shoot like a film photographer.

You’re gonna suck at first. Your first 30 tries at learning a new technique are gonna be really bad. You’re going to blow highlights. You’re going to have bad composition. You’re going to fail. But, I wholeheartedly believe that we learned best by failing forward.

Hi I’m Annelise and I’m a portrait photographer. I teach creative souls how to level up their photography skills while making it accessible and hands-on.

When you try new things, of you’re not perfect at at the first time. And that’s ok!! Nobody is. But you only actually fail if you DON’T try in the first place.

Ask yourself, What’s the worst that could happen? What would be embarrassing about working at a skill that makes you happy and brings you joy? Perhaps this new skill you have learned will increase your future income in a positive way. Or maybe you will just be happier in life, knowing that you accomplished something you were so anxious to start in the first place.

Either way, I believe in you!

Everyone starts as a beginner (obvs)so whether you want to take better pictures on your vacations, or if you are using Photography as a mindfulness practice, or maybe you want to finally take a picture of that sunset the way you see it with your eyes, Calliope Creative is the perfect place to start.
