Something magic happened in Milton-Freewater this week.
Six kids picked up cameras and became photographers. Not the pretend kind. The real kind. We watched them get quiet, chase the light across a wall, drop to the ground for a better angle, and light up when they realized the whole world had been waiting for them to really LOOK at it.
That’s the thing about photography. It doesn’t ask where you come from or how much your family makes. It hands a kid a way to say “this is how I see the world” and means it. Once a child feels that spark, it doesn’t go out. It follows them home. It shows up in how they notice the light through their kitchen window, the shadow on the sidewalk, the face of someone they love. It changes how they move through the world.
This is what Through the Lens is here to do. Put that spark in as many hands as we can reach. Our first cohort is complete, we made the front page of the Union Bulletin, and we found our very first Maxood FRAME Fund scholarship recipient, all in two days. 💛 And we are just getting started.
Imagine what happens when it’s not six kids. When it’s sixty. Six hundred. A whole generation of young artists in our valley who grew up knowing they had something worth showing the world. That’s the future we’re building, and you can be part of it.

Algo mágico pasó en Milton-Freewater esta semana. ✨📸
Seis niños tomaron cámaras y se convirtieron en fotógrafos. No de mentira. De verdad. Los vimos quedarse en silencio, perseguir la luz por una pared, tirarse al suelo para conseguir un mejor ángulo, e iluminarse al darse cuenta de que el mundo entero había estado esperando a que de verdad lo MIRARAN.
Eso es lo hermoso de la fotografía. No pregunta de dónde vienes ni cuánto gana tu familia. Le da a un niño una manera de decir “así es como yo veo el mundo” y lo dice en serio. Una vez que un niño siente esa chispa, no se apaga. Lo acompaña a casa. Aparece en cómo nota la luz que entra por la ventana de su cocina, la sombra en la banqueta, el rostro de alguien que ama. Cambia la manera en que se mueve por el mundo.
