"The Reality of our Choosing"

We don't necessarily create reality. We create interpretations of reality, and those interpretations influence the reality we experience. For example, when you refuse help, the offer of assistance is an objective event. But what you associate with accepting help—dependence, vulnerability, weakness, gratitude, trust—is influenced by your experiences.
------------------------------------------------------------
The event hasn't changed. Its meaning has.
And that meaning influences your next decision. This also connects to a concept in psychology called self-schema: the beliefs and mental frameworks through which we understand ourselves. Once we identify as independent, we may interpret accepting help as conflicting with who we are, even when accepting it would benefit us.
------‐-------------------------------------
But our self-schema can evolve.

Soul in Progress | The Preparation Paradox

The book is still sitting there.

The idea is still in your notes.

The plan is still “almost ready.”

And the scary part? You might have completely reasonable explanations for all of it.

But preparation becomes a trap when you keep creating conditions you must meet before giving yourself permission to move.

Rudeus shows us what fear can make “not yet” look like.

Senku shows us the alternative: start with what you have and build the next step.

You don't need everything required to finish.

You need enough to begin.

What could you already be doing today?

Soul in Progress | Adaptive Integrity

Discipline isn’t always pushing through. Sometimes it’s recognizing when continuing will cost you something more valuable.

That’s Adaptive Integrity.

Your principles should give you direction—not trap you into performing the same version of yourself forever.

Thorfinn didn’t become weaker when he stopped solving every problem with violence. He developed a deeper understanding of what strength actually required.

Bruce Lee understood it through combat: when reality changes, your approach has to be capable of changing with it.

Growth isn’t abandoning who you are.

It’s becoming wise enough to recognize when who you’ve always been is no longer what the moment requires.

Protect the value. Adapt the behavior.

Are you living by your principles—or performing an identity you’ve outgrown?

Some people measure success by how far they've grown.

Other people measure it by how many people they've managed to stay ahead of.

I call that Sideways Success.

It's when you're no longer focused on actually moving forward—you just need to feel like you're doing better than the person next to you.

And sometimes that turns ugly.

You don't have to get the promotion if I can stop you from getting yours.

I don't have to chase my idea if I can convince you yours won't work.

I don't have to become better if I can make you question whether you're good enough.

That's Tonpa.

And the wild part is, Tonpa was experienced enough to survive the Hunter Exam over and over again. Imagine what all that experience could've built if he actually put that energy toward becoming a Hunter instead of becoming the Rookie Crusher.

That's why Sideways Success is dangerous.

You can become so obsessed with somebody else's position that you completely stop improving your own.

And yeah… sometimes the Tonpa isn't somebody else.

Sometimes it's us.

Competition says:

“You're getting better? Bet. I need to step my game up.”

Sideways Success says:

“You're getting better? I need to bring you back down here with me.”

Those are two completely different mindsets.

So check yourself every once in a while.

Are you actually moving forward…

or does it just feel like you're moving forward because somebody next to you fell behind?

Build up. Not sideways.

Don't be a Tonpa.

🌿 Accokeek Community Day was a whole vibe!
Great people, great energy, and a community that really showed up. From the local vendors and small businesses to the families, patrons, food, music, and everybody who came through to support — this is what community looks like.
Back to Nature had a great time meeting new faces, connecting with other entrepreneurs, and getting our products into the hands of more people. 🌱
Big shoutout to DJ Best Friend for keeping the energy going 🎧 and to the performing artists and 301 Spider for coming out and putting on a show! 🎤🔥
Thank you to everyone who stopped by, supported a vendor, grabbed something to eat, brought the family out, or simply enjoyed the day with us.
Accokeek showed up. We’ll definitely be doing this again soon. 💚
