I had SOOO much fun teaching “iPhone Photography Tips” Thursday evening at the Amherst Senior Center! I was extremely nervous preparing for this class. It had been so long since I’d written/prepared a presentation for MYSELF, but once the class began I was instantly reminded how much I love interacting with people and sharing information.
Students were so engaged and excited that we stayed an extra 45 minutes answering questions and doing demos and are considering adding a 2nd course to series.
The class was a part of The Erie County Department of Senior Services’ University Express Fall Semester. UE offers free classes for lifelong learners ages 55 and older. Check out their page for more info, or visit Erie.gov/ue to view their full class catalog. They offer classes covering a variety of interests so I am confident that there is something for everyone.
I grew up extremely close to the older adults in my life and what I love about these classes is that they offer the opportunity to reduce social isolation rebuild a social network. For caregivers that share interests with their older loved ones, it's a really engaging activity that they can attend together.

With the Beau Fleuve Music & Arts Celebration weekend 2023 approaching this weekend, I thought It’d be dope to re-share some of my favorite photos that I’ve captured at the celebration over the years. 🤩 I pretty much knew off top which images I had in mind, but once I started to dig through the crates (that are the unorganized file folders of my old external hard drives 😅), I found myself staggered by how much had changed since I had taken these images.
Looking at the faces in these photos, some of them I HADN’T EVEN MET YET. And have since established a really good rapport with. Not even realizing that I had snapped their photo these few years back. Some of them are no longer with us and make my heart feel a little heavy. Some of them have moved on to do amazing things in their lives, whether it be career wise or just overcoming seemingly impossible personal obstacles. And some of them…well we really don’t know wtf is going on with 🥴 but we wish them the best.
But that’s what I love about photos. They are literally moments captured in time. Nothing reminds me of how I felt, where I started, where I’ve been like a photograph can.
But anywho…make sure you check out the festival this weekend. It’s always a complete vibe; photos can’t even do it justice. I’ll be sharing more throwbacks!
