Slipping through my fingers all the time,
I try to capture every minute 🎀

I, like Eliza’s mama & daddy, cannot believe a year has already flown by since she made their world a little bit wilder and a lot more wonderful. 🥹

Peep the end of the carousel where my sweet Jameson, who has been “second shooting” with me lately 😉, was absolutely essential in prompting many of the big, toothy grins we got from Eliza during her session. 🫶🏻 I’m forever so thankful that the love is mutual between my family and so many of the beautiful families that come visit me.

I find myself feeling a little desperate to do a good job for people, (always, but) especially this time of year. From August to December, it’s crunch time. Weddings, engagements, bridals, annual family sessions with familiar faces, all of it — it ramps up in the fall, and the world is so beautiful that I don’t want its rich colors and moodiness to go to waste. I want to do it justice, and I want to do you and your love justice, too. Sessions like this one remind me there’s a reason this job is mine, there’s a reason people trust me with their moments. You (and I) can get caught up in all the location planning, all the wardrobe coordination (and while that’s all fun and of course important) sometimes the best thing we can all do is show up with open hearts, and remember that THIS right here is what’s important to document. The story writes itself if you’re willing to slow down, trust yourself, and bear witness to it. 🤍🍂🌾

Yes, but. 🤗 Getting it as close to “perfect” in-camera is always the goal (and Ruthie is so lovely, it wasn’t hard for these!), but the editing is where the magic happens for me. Not every session will have the same lighting, the same background colors, the same mood, and that used to drive me crazy because I thought I was doing my clients a disservice by not being able to produce the “same exact” feeling and tones from one session to the next…but then I realized that those discrepancies aren’t uh-oh moments, they’re opportunities to create something wholly individual for each client. So now I think there’s a kind of magic in letting the world around what you’re photographing tell half the story. Photography is, by definition, the recording of light. So maybe letting that element rule the end result, even in the editing stage, is the whole point. 🤍
