🌧️ FLOOD WATCH — SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA 🌧️

A Flood Watch is in effect until 10 PM tonight (Sunday) for portions of southwest Minnesota as slow-moving thunderstorms could produce very heavy rainfall.

📍 Minnesota counties included:
Cottonwood, Jackson, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone & Rock.

⚠️ What to expect: Thunderstorms may produce rainfall rates of 2–4 inches per hour in some areas. If storms repeatedly move over the same locations, flash flooding could develop quickly.

Flooding may impact roads, low-lying areas, creeks and streams, with rapid rises possible.

🚨 Remember: A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding—it does not mean flooding is occurring everywhere. Be prepared in case Flash Flood Warnings are issued later today.

Never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

⛈️ MINNESOTA WEATHER OUTLOOK — SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

Storm chances return to parts of Minnesota later today, with the best chance for stronger storms across western Minnesota this afternoon and evening.

A few storms could become strong to severe, with the main threats being:
• Large hail
• Damaging wind gusts
• Heavy rain in stronger storms

Storms should generally weaken as they move farther east, so the severe threat looks lower across eastern Minnesota.

Northern Minnesota may also see scattered showers and thunderstorms develop later this evening into tonight.

⚡ Bottom line: Western Minnesota has the best chance of seeing stronger storms today, while much of central and eastern Minnesota has a lower risk.

We’ll keep an eye on things and post updates if anything changes!

⚡️ LATE NIGHT SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE — MINNESOTA ⚡️

The storms across northern Minnesota are beginning to take a turn toward the southeast, and the SPC is now monitoring portions of northern/east-central Minnesota into northwest Wisconsin for a possible NEW Severe Thunderstorm Watch overnight.

There is currently a 40% chance of a watch being issued.

The storms are moving toward an area of much higher instability across central Minnesota, which could allow them to maintain their strength as they continue southeast overnight.

⚠️ MAIN THREATS:
💨 Wind gusts of 55–70 MPH
🧊 Hail potentially 1.5–2.5 inches

The big question is whether these storms can tap into the warmer, more unstable air farther southeast. If they do, the severe threat could continue deeper into the overnight hours.

If you’re in central/east-central Minnesota or northwest Wisconsin, keep your weather alerts ON tonight and don’t assume the storms are done just because it’s late!

At 9:08 PM, a severe thunderstorm was located about 14 miles north of Alexandria, moving east at 30 mph.

💨 Wind gusts up to 60 mph
🧊 Quarter-size hail (1 inch)
📡 Radar indicated

Locations impacted include:
📍 Leaf Valley

📍 Miltona
📍 Belle River
📍 Rose City
📍 Eagle Bend
📍 Clotho
📍 Clarissa

⚡ 8 PM SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE — MINNESOTA

The Storm Prediction Center continues a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms across parts of Minnesota this evening.

Storms across northern Minnesota are beginning to weaken as they move into more stable air, BUT we’re not completely finished yet.

⛈️ New storms have developed across northwest and west-central Minnesota, and SPC says there is still potential for a small organized cluster of storms to develop around the Brainerd area through the mid-to-late evening.

🧊 Large hail remains possible
💨 Damaging winds remain possible
🌪️ An isolated tornado threat remains with any supercell that can stay organized, particularly in west-central Minnesota in the short term.

There is still some uncertainty about how long these storms will maintain their strength tonight. The overall severe threat should gradually decrease as the atmosphere stabilizes, but we’re not quite done yet.

⚠️🌪️ SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE — WEST-CENTRAL MINNESOTA

The Storm Prediction Center is closely watching an isolated supercell moving through west-central Minnesota this evening.

The environment remains VERY unstable, with around 3,500 J/kg of MLCAPE and 50–60 kt of effective wind shear. This could support an isolated supercell capable of all severe hazards over the next 1–2 hours.

🌪️ Tornado possible
🧊 Large to very large hail — potentially 2”+
💨 Damaging winds of 55–70 mph

A new Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch is considered unlikely because the threat should remain fairly isolated and short-lived — but any storm that does develop or persist could still be dangerous.

⚠️ If you’re in west-central Minnesota, especially east/southeast of the ongoing storms, stay weather aware and have warnings turned ON tonight.

At 7:37 PM, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was near Fergus Falls, moving east at 20 mph.

🌪️ Radar-indicated rotation
⚠️ A spotter has reported a funnel cloud
🧊 Hail up to 2 inches possible

Locations impacted include:
📍 Fergus Falls
📍 Ashby
📍 Dalton
📍 I-94 between mile markers 54–75

⚠️ TAKE COVER NOW if you are in the warning! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.
