I'm still on my mission to clear the back log of photos from the last few years.

Sedona is one of my favorite places. Mysticism be damned, it's a stunning place. The bright blue skies and the vibrant red rocks collide in spectacular fashion.

I'm still going through old photos. This one is from our 2018 trip to Arizona and Saguaro National Park.

Though some people focus on the stately Saguaros in their eponymous park, I loved the Palo Verde tree ("nurse tree"). I loved the bright green bark and its pop of color in the ruddy monotone of the desert.

Going through some older photos and I came across these from my trip to Wyoming in 2022. I definitely miss that clear, mountain air and grand landscapes.

Fort Popham is a granite fort constructed at the mouth of the Kennebec River. It was never completed but used to garrison troops in both the Spanish-American War and WWI. Most notably, it was commanded by Captain Augustin Thompson who later crafted the regional favorite beverage, Moxie Soda.

It was here that I discovered that my phone's camera can just about replaced my smaller focal length, walkabout lenses. The light wasn't spectacular outside the fort so I decided to leave my camera in the car. The light inside, however, was great. So I pulled out my phone to snap some quick shots to remember the visit. These are the results.

Now, I still need my camera and lenses for specialty shots like long exposures; long, compressed portraits; or macros. We'll see what happens whenever I upgrade my current camera, I may change my mind entirely (and a large part of me hopes so).

Going back to the Maine adventure again.

Portland Head Light is easily one of the most visited and photographed lighthouses in Maine. As much as I love finding the unusual and neglected places, sometimes you just can't deny that popular places are that way for a reason.

We did the best that we could in the evening light. The sun sets behind a berm just to the west of the lighthouse, so it is shrouded in shade and does not see any reflected light. I'm sure that there could be better photographs in the sunrise, but that requires being a morning person.

Cape Neddick Light (aka Nubble Lighthouse)

Located on an island just 100 yards off of Cape Neddick Point, this is a fine example of classic lighthouse design. In fact, it was included on the golden record carried by the Voyager spacecraft.

The sunset was lovely and I thought about not taking any photos at all just to enjoy my time there by the seaside.

SS Intrepid II
Bartlett's Landing
Mt Desert ME

After wandering around the wildlife refuge, we sought out a good spot for the sunset. We were treated with one of the most boring sunsets I have seen in quite some time. I spent some time getting a few detail shots of the area around the dock.

Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge

On the hunt for wildlife for Mike, we headed to a refuge. No fuzzy mammals were to be found that afternoon, but I did get oddly obsessed with sphagnum moss.

Spent an afternoon at Baxter State Park. It was a 3 hour drive from our Airbnb so we didn't get the greatest light. I was kind of lucky we had a bit of cloud cover as we checked out this bridge.
