I get asked often, “so what exactly do you do?” And that’s a fair question because my stories and posts vary from picturing cattle to driving all night or driving the swather, to my kids riding their horses to me picturing sale horses and quite literally anything in between 😂

So I’ll break it down a little bit for HMA work:
• Picturing & videoing sale cattle — this is the bulk of traveling I do from about December through May. From the lot photos in the sale catalog to the lot videos you see when you bid online, those are what I do.
• Designing the sale catalog — from starting with a blank canvas to the finished print and digital product.
• Sale day coverage — growing and growing every year, this service is a fun one for us and allows our creative minds to flow. We travel to our client’s sale and capture it all in photo and video. These photos are nice to use in the catalog and other marketing materials, along with video to promote their company.
• Ranch shoots — this is the bulk of my traveling throughout the summer and fall. These photos are especially nice to use in the client’s catalog, website and other media. Plus, it’s fun to show off the cows with calves at side.
• Miscellaneous — anything goes 😆 from interviews and video series, social media management to custom design work, video and photo shoots for sale horses, lifestyle shots and more.

I’m very fortunate to combine work with personal life, some fun, and experiences that I’d never get to enjoy if it wasn’t for our clients, my family and friends.

Some sweet summertime frames I don’t want to forget.

She’s a class act!

She’s a class act!

In junior high school in Montana she wrote an essay arguing why breakaway roping should be added to the National Finals Rodeo. Then in 2020 the NFR added breakaway roping. And Joey Williams was there to compete in it.
Born and raised on her family's fifth generation working cattle ranch in rural northwestern South Dakota, Joey Williams grew up with cattle and horses and wide open country before she was old enough to understand what she was really learning. She competed in all the women's events through high school — breakaway roping, barrel racing, team roping, goat tying — qualifying for the National High School Rodeo Finals four times. Then she attended Black Hills State University, won the 2012 College National Finals Rodeo breakaway roping championship and earned an All-Around Cowgirl title in the Great Plains Region. She followed that with a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota.
Then she married PRCA team roper Taylor Williams and moved to Volborg Montana — one of the most remote and ruggedly beautiful corners of the American West — to build a life on his family's cattle ranch. She bred and raised and trained her own horses. She fed cows in the morning and rode horses in the afternoon. She raised three children under five years old simultaneously. She ran a business. She did everything on the list and then added one more thing.
She went back to breakaway roping professionally.
When the WPRA and PRCA launched breakaway roping as a professional co-approved event she was among the first Montana cowgirls to take it seriously. In 2021 at the first National Finals Breakaway Roping ever held in Las Vegas she qualified ranked fourteenth in the world. She came back in 2022. Then 2023. Three consecutive NFBR qualifications on a horse named Baybe Bullet — a mare her husband Taylor had carried to three consecutive Montana Circuit Finals Heeling Championships before passing her to Joey. The same horse who won the 2022 Nutrena Horse of the Year award for the Williams family.
She won Cheyenne Frontier Days — the Daddy of 'Em All. She won the Pendleton Round-Up. She won the Montana Circuit Finals and has been a force in the Mountain States region every season she has competed. In 2025 after competing at just two early events she found herself atop the WPRA world standings — and found out about it by stumbling across a social media post while keeping her kids in wrestling practice and barely having time to check her phone.
She said it with the unshakeable perspective of a mother of three who has never needed the spotlight to know her own worth — "I have three kids, two of them are in school and they're doing wrestling and I felt like I barely had time to get the circuit finals in. So it's kind of surreal."
She also said the thing that has always been true from the first day to the last — "Being a mother comes first. Breakaway is obviously serious for me. But if it goes well that's fantastic. But if not — you've got plenty of things to do at home."
She wrote that junior high essay and the NFR listened eventually. Then she showed up and competed when the door opened.
That is Joey Williams. 🤠🎀🪢
