One thing I’ve learned over the past few weeks is that people are incredibly quick to write the ending to someone else’s story.

I’ve heard everything from “I heard you’re closing your business” to people offering me jobs because they think I’m stepping away from photography.

The truth?
I’m not closing.
I’m moving.

For the past three years, my husband and I have been renovating our dream home, and it has been the plan for Jenny King Photography to move there. I’ll have a dedicated office, a private studio, and a space that finally feels like home.

Businesses evolve. Seasons change. Addresses change. This next season feels less about becoming someone new & more about coming home to who I’ve always been.

For so long, I’ve worn “pushing through” like a badge of honor. Keep going. Keep producing. Keep showing up. Keep carrying it all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But if I’m honest, I don’t think that started with business. I think it started when I became a single mom at 19 and learned very quickly that stopping didn’t feel like an option. Survival mode has a way of becoming second nature.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And when you spend years living in fight or flight, constantly carrying everything, eventually it becomes hard to tell the difference between ambition and survival.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Even now, with a life that younger me could have only dreamed of, I still catch myself waiting for the other shoe to drop. Still feeling like rest has to be earned. Still feeling like my value somehow lives in how much I can carry.

This accident has forced me to sit still in a way I haven’t in years. And I’m realizing maybe I don’t actually know how.

I’m trying to learn that I’m valuable even when I’m sitting still.

This last Sunday, I was in a motorcycle accident. I’m okay, but something about having your life flash in front of you changes things.

I say all the time that I’m only a mere mortal human, but being on bed rest has forced me to really lock in on the fact that… I really am human.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For over a decade, I’ve built this business with my own two hands. When I’m down, everything is down. There isn’t a team answering emails beside me. There isn’t someone managing socials, editing galleries, designing albums, or making sure things keep moving while I recover. When I stop, everything stops.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Being real, sitting still has felt uncomfortable. It’s been uncomfortable knowing I am letting people down by reaching out to reschedule. It’s uncomfortable putting myself first in order to heal. The pressure of slowing down feels overwhelming when your entire world has been built around always moving, always creating, always showing up for everyone else.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think it may be time to hang up the “Wild Jenny” hat. I’ll always have a touch of feral in me, but I’m craving the softer side of life that I was always meant for but have never had the opportunity to be. The kind with more room to breathe, more room to create, and more room for inspiration to exist outside of deadlines and calendars.

Because the truth is: this isn’t just me showing up with a camera.
