Sometimes the weather aligns just right, and we find a gem like this!
Occasionally, after big storms with temperature inversions, the valley below Castleton Tower fills with fog while the towers poke through.
These days, using modern technology is a huge part of how we shoot. One of our favorite ways to scout locations is by checking live we**ams. Most National Parks and many weather stations across the country have different we**ams set up with near real-time images of some of our favorite spots. For this shot, Scott was checking the we**am up on Bald Mesa and realized that even though the whole area was covered in fog, the towers were poking through! Luckily, by the time he raced out there with the drone, the conditions held up to capture this beauty.
This particular photo was taken years ago, when the best drone camera out there was the tiny little sensor on the original DJI Mavic. With new image processing software like the integrated noise reduction in Lightroom, and Topaz, we've been able to enhance photos like this so they meet more modern printing standards. This has always been one of our favorite shots, but now it's a solid print as well!
Technology has always been a big part of the photographic process, and we truly love to find new ways to capture the beauty of the world around us, and to revisit some of our older photos to give them new life.
