We’ve been thinking about what it means to build something that matters. Not that the gatherings we hold don’t matter, but we knew we could take it one step further.

The Keepers Retreat started because we knew what it felt like to carry the weight of advocating for our children alone. And we knew there had to be other mothers who needed a place to put that weight down, even for a morning. But healing was never meant to stay contained in one room.

That’s why a portion of proceeds from each Keepers Retreat will be donated to causes supporting women, families with special needs, or emotional healing.
Some seasons, we may choose the organization.
Other times, the cause may be inspired by a story shared by one of the women in the room with us.

Because when we gather, when we witness each other, when we hold space for the tender stories, and that healing deserves to reach further.

When one woman is held, many are. 🤍

For years, holding space for women has lived at the center of my work, behind the camera and inside the sacred, honest rooms where stories are finally spoken.

That’s why retreats, both annual gatherings and smaller circles throughout the year, have become such an important part of what I do.

Our next one is happening next month, and if your heart feels pulled toward it, I would truly love to have you there.

The appointments.
The school meetings.
The paperwork.
The advocating.
The constant explaining.
The quiet worry that never fully turns off.

And most days, you’re the strong one.
Because you have to be.

The Keepers Retreat was created for mothers like you.

Mothers raising children with special or complex needs, holding so much, often without a place to put it down.

We are mothers and caregivers who have sat in the medical appointments, the diagnosis conversations, the IEP meetings, the evaluations.
We know the weight of feeling like you are the only one who truly sees what your child needs.
We know what it feels like to be dismissed, doubted, or unheard.

This March, join Grace, Carrie, Amy, and I for a gentle morning inside Grace’s historic home in Cedarville, Ohio — an intimate, private gathering of mothers walking this road together.

A space to share stories.
To be witnessed.
To exhale.
To build the village we all need.

I’m so behind on sharing all of the beautiful families I had the honor of capturing this past summer/fall so I’m just going to jump right in and start with The Miller Family.

This session we did a little bit of everything and it was so much fun planning and capturing from beginning to end. Shadow play, sun-kissed faces, ice cream cones, and so much laughter! It truly brought feelings of nostalgia to every part of our time together!

I’m still sitting with all that unfolded at the retreat.
It’s so beautiful the way we begin to remember who we are when we’re witnessed.
So much is stirring within me, asking me to soften, deepen, and continue to surrender to where I’m being led.

I can feel myself expanding in ways that can’t be rushed.
My work is shifting.
My presence is deepening.

Allowing myself the permission to move a little slower.
Listening for what’s real,
for what is mine to carry forward
and what I’m ready to set down.

Arthera Collective | The Keeper’s Retreat

Honoring the keepers—women carrying extraordinary love through special needs.

On September 28th, and I are hosting a women’s micro retreat in her home — a space for resilience, remembrance, and connection.

When we first announced, we shared this as a gathering for mothers of children with special needs. And while that heart remains, we’ve realized this space is meant to hold all women: mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and friends.

We are honored to announce we will be joined by my dear friend and her mother Carrie, who co-authored a memoir about their son and brother — a story of caregiving, loss, and love that endures. Their words hold wisdom not only for mothers, but for anyone longing to better show up for themselves and for the ones they love.

So whether this story mirrors your own journey, or you simply want to walk alongside with greater tenderness, there is a place for you here.

The day will include heartfelt conversation, journaling, small group reflection, an affirmation exchange, and poolside rest as we close. Each woman will receive her own journal, resources, and a copy of their memoir.

There’s so much I could say about this session—about this family. The way they love, move, and exist together. Witnessing and capturing them felt so true to the artist I’ve become.

It’s as if my inner child—the little girl within me—is being brought back to life with every story I get to witness and preserve in this way. And at the same time, my own motherhood journey is breaking me wide open… with new hope, with wild curiosity, and with overwhelming joy which will only continue to show up in my work and how I witness and capture each family.

The work we do as photographers is so much more than the perfect poses and curated outfits. We are holding space for safety, play, connection, and trust— which are among the most important ingredients when capturing people honestly.

I shared a deeply tender announcement with those on my mailing list today and wanted to share it here with you all as well.

After this year’s annual retreat in September, I have made the decision to take a sacred pause in 2026. This choice wasn’t made lightly—but deeply. Holding space for women in such an intimate, transformative way has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Which is why when making this decision I took everything into account—ultimately the intention and sacredness of the space created here depends on this pause. I believe that in my heart.

This next season calls for stillness. For listening more closely to Spirit. For preparing my heart for the next chapter of Arthera—and the women it’s meant to hold.

This pause isn’t an ending.
It’s a breath.
A becoming.

In 2027, we’ll return—in many ways, it will be a homecoming with a vision that’s even more rooted in healing, beauty, and becoming.

But before we pause…
There is one more sacred gathering—a final retreat this September in Michigan. A lakeside home. A slow rhythm. A circle of women ready to remember who they are.
