Despite the soaring temperatures, it was another fantastic show with some brilliant views of aircraft movements on Runway 09 operations.

What a fantastic show today at London Heathrow!!!

Lots of fantastic movements, butter landings and interesting visitors.

Today was a milestone as the channel has reached 10k subs and we also did this on our first of many ongoing livestreams from LHR on a Tuesday.

Massive thanks to the generous super chats. Every bit of your generosity really matters.

In addition to this, thank you to all who became AVG Light channel members and joined the growing AVG family. Your support helps keep this channel moving forward to bring you more incredible live shows from LHR and many other airports.

Lastly, a big thanks to our mods Louise and Tina for all of their hard work. 4 hour livestreams are tiring and they’re there all the way from start to finish supporting the channel and most importantly helping me to interact with all of you wonderful people who take time out of your day to tune in.

Next stop: Birmingham Airport on Thursday! We’ll be swapping Heathrow heavies for a wonderfully mixed bag of aircraft, from ATRs to A380s and everything in between. Regional airports have their own unique charm, and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Look at the trailing-edge flap vortices and wing vapour on this Virgin Atlantic A330-900 arriving into Heathrow.

In the humid conditions seen in this video, we’re witnessing two aerodynamic effects at the same time.

The “fluff” or cloud-like vapour forming over the wing is caused by moisture in the air condensing as the pressure above the wing drops and lift is generated.

At the same time, the extended trailing-edge flaps are producing visible vortices as air spills from the higher-pressure area beneath the wing to the lower-pressure area above it. In humid conditions, these vortices become visible as condensation trails, often referred to as “cotton tails”.

While wingtip vortices are the most commonly seen, especially on aircraft without blended wingtips, flap vortices can be just as spectacular during approach and landing.
