It’s easy to write off mountains on the East Coast as unimposing compared to the towering mountains of the western United States. However, there’s a special charm that the Smokey and Blue Ridge Mountains will always hold. From the winding roads, to the magical “smoke” covering the landscape, it’s a site that definitely makes the drive worth it.

I woke up this morning to a notification from AccuWeather telling me there was a chance I’d be able to see the aurora borealis from Cleveland OH. I didn’t believe it, but figured I’d go out and check it out around 10PM EST. To my amazement, hues of pink, green, purple and red danced across the sky. I ran back to the house and grabbed my Nikon to capture these for you.

Tucked behind an unassuming yellow landscape in Death Valley is hills of an array of colors (red, orange, yellow, blue, pink, and green), splashed across the hills. These colors are from volcanic deposits rich in compounds such as iron oxides and chlorite, which creates a rainbow effect.

Entering California on the way to Death Valley was a very scenic drive. Flowers were in full bloom, with mountains visible in the distance. The bright yellow flowers extending out for miles provide a picturesque contrast that give the shot an eye catching pop.

Badwater Basin is the hottest place on earth. Despite this, the basin periodically floods leaving behind a thin layer of water over the salt flats. This results in a mirror effect, and reflects the mountains in the distance off the shallow pool. 🏜️✨ "
