While “thank you” seems like a really simple and reciprocal phrase, it’s a phrase I’ve been ruminating over for 6 months. Surprise! We’re ruminating. 🎈
“Thank you” was the last thing I said to my momma in that hospital bed, before walking away from her earthly vessel forever. I never received a response back, of course, but I said it knowing it was a gift, and with a gift, it’s the act of giving that is the intent. The inspiration to offer something to someone does not arrive on the wings of hope for receiving anything in return, not even a whisper of a word, but on the most basic and tender nature of “I love you and I want to leave you with this.”
Thank you, for the gift of life
Thank you, for the creative gift of art
Thank you, for the warmth of wonder
Thank you, for fighting for my health and life
Thank you, for putting that camera in my hands
Thank you, for letting me dream big even when I was so small
Thank you, for being my mom though our moment together in this lifetime as mother and daughter was cut short
Thank you, for finding me in the past, present and future
I love you, thank you
🤍
