RUSHING IN

The surf rushing in with a slow shutter speed really accentuates the waters movement. A few fishermen up on the pier and that is about it on the beach this evening, well of course me with my camera. I thought black and white really did this image justice to give a nice dramatic feel and cools down the temp of the picture.

Coquina Beach Lifeguard towers

On the southern end of Anna Maria Island sits Coquina Beach and this is the very last lifeguard tower with a few others in view behind going north. A beautiful chilly January morning on the beach with no people to be seen, the morning fog is still lingering around a bit in the distance giving the beach a hazy feel. Just a great morning to be out and about taking pictures on Anna Maria Island.

The iconic "old jetty" at Coquina Beach

A quiet winter morning at the iconic "old jetty" at Coquina Beach on Anna Maria Island is a historic timber structure built in the 1950s at Longboat Pass, designed to protect the shoreline. Known for its old Florida charm, the aging, rock-filled timber structure is often covered by sand and acts as a popular, scenic spot for sunset photography and walking. Not too long ago, most if not all the jetty was open with water splashing up through it, but as you can see, they extended the beach way beyond the end and wide to the south a lot.

GASPARILLA ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE
The 105’ tower was built in 1881 by the Phoenix Iron Company of Trenton, N.J. It began service just north of Lewes, Delaware as the Delaware Breakwater Rear Range Light, known locally as the Green Hill Lighthouse. In 1927, the lighthouse was reassembled and installed on Gasparilla Island just south of the town of Boca Grande by the U.S. Lighthouse Service. The tower was painted white and a 4th order Fresnel lens was installed and lit on January 1, 1932. The light was not manned, but continuously maintained by the Light Keepers of Gasparilla Island Light Station, better known as Port Boca Grande Lighthouse.

Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron searching for breakfast this morning behind our home and looking very majestic. What a beautiful bird, very elegant and they move with such grace. This one seemed to be posing for me, I came within about 12 feet, and he/she just let me take more pictures. When I started to get up, he just turned and looked my way to say good morning.

The sun has fallen below the horizon and the clouds seem to come alive with color and depth, some great colors mixing with some ominous looking clouds. Sometimes the afterglow of the sun just delights the eyes, and this evening surely did that. The water had a beautiful color, just a typical Venice Sunset 😊
I slowed the shutter speed down a little on this one to add some motion to the water but not enough to distort the clouds which are still crisp and defined.

Just the two of us.

What a better way to end the day, grab your loved one and head down to the beach to take in a stunning sunset. The suns rays reaching up to the sky behind the clouds as the sun starts to sink below the horizon. Just a few more minutes and it will be gone for the evening, until tomorrow for another night on the beach.

Into the darkness

Walking into complete darkness is what it feels like walking out on to the pier at night, the soft glow from the low lights is all there is. The further you walk out the less you hear the music behind you, just you and the sounds of the Gulf. We are lucky to have this beautiful pier to enjoy here in Venice, so much to be thankful for.

Sharky’s On The Pier

An ice-cold Heineken in one hand and the other adjusting the exposure setting on my camera here on the pier at Sharky’s. A perfect night on the beach, hardly any humidity, temps in the mid 70’s, sky full of stars and a few clouds here and there. This is the quintessential Venice evening, just perfect and Sharky’s all lit up like a Christmas tree. What more could you ask for, another beer perhaps? I used an 8 second exposure to help reduce the amount of people you see on the pier, they disappear with longer exposures like they were not even there.
