This past year was filled with a lot of memorable moments. Time spent in the mountains and on the rockwall, with family, and with friends old and new, doing the things I love, trudging a windy path towards a lot of unknowns. I lived into my values more than ever and achieved a lot of what I set out to do, and for that I'm proud. While life offered a lot of beautiful moments to reflect on and be grateful for, it was balanced with equally tough moments and messy emotions to wade through. The blessings were many, while the misfortunes heavier than usual. Though it feels like being on the edge of a cliff, I'm still on solid ground, with incredible views. So as tomorrow unfolds and a new year begins, I'll be appreciating the opportunity for new perspectives at the cliff's edge. Because as the saying goes, we do it for the views.

Stay up, friends.

This summer has been a whirlwind and the best part is it's not over yet. Lots of time spent outside exploring new areas, lots of climbing, and lots of shared moments and smiles like the one pictured here (shout out to the crew!!!). I've captured a lot of big and small moments along the way, but the immediacy of sharing is low on my priority list lately. With so much going on and preparing for a new chapter, being intentional, limiting distractions, prioritizing being in each moment, and reclaiming time for myself has been a priority. It's been a hard lesson to learn and I'm still learning the balancing act, but aligning with your values pays out joy and fulfillment as dividends.

So as a note to myself and others that may need it… Reclaim the best parts of life, align with your core values, the pieces that bring you the most joy, the parts that light your soul. Prioritize them, so that it's a consistent part of your life. When the hard parts come, the good parts will keep flowing. Great things will fall into place and you have the power to keep them there. Your to-do list will continue to grow and you're actually not missing all that much on social media. Be true to yourself and values, life is too short to be on a path of discontent. Honor your own truth and your uniqueness, it doesn't have to be like anybody else's.

Hope everyone's got their shades on, sunscreen applied, and plenty of water to stay hydrated! The heat wave has only just begun. How are you planning on keeping it cool? I'm still trying to figure it out. Leave some suggestions in the comments please!

If you're out recreating, please do it responsibly and respect any burn bans that have been put in place! Fire season is upon us and the bans are in effect to keep us all safe and our environment intact. And as always, leave no trace!!

Happy Asian American & Pacific Islander Month! This is a month we celebrate the achievements and contributions of AAPI. It feels a bit strange celebrating amidst all the hate crimes and violence the community is facing, but this is a good reminder that we're a strong and resilient community with a lot to be proud of. This isn't a time to be silent. And this isn't a time to let anyone steal our joy.

I for one have always been proud of our delicious foods and tradition of feeding people who enter our homes despite saying they're not hungry 😂 Forgive me... I know, this pic of me stuffing my face with a Clif bar isn't the best representation of that food tradition, but it's all I had. Haha

If you're AAPI, what are some things of your culture you're proud of? If you're an ally, what are some things you love most about AAPI culture?

Yesterday I celebrated a personal victory, having pushed my own limits of climbing two mountains in short time, and feeling fresh enough for more. I posted about it on my personal account to be able to look back at the milestone. To revisit it with a sense of pride in where I started, how far I've gone, and how far I can go if I keep pushing. And as soon as I reached that peak, I plummeted to the valley floor.

As high as my spirits soared, my heart sank even lower with update after update of the mass murder fueled by hate towards the Asian community, specifically Asian women. I really don't give a damn that my celebration was cut short. It's a stupid selfish pursuit anyway. But what I do give a damn about is that we can't even take a moment for ourselves, to celebrate even something small, without it being tainted by some feelings of guilt and shame, because our community is being targeted and suffers while we try to raise our glasses to the tiniest of victories.

But the guilt and shame shouldn't be on me, the Asian community, or any targeted community. It's on the community where the seeds of this hatred were spread, roots sprouted, and continue to be cultivated. As much as I'd like to understand it, I don't think I ever will. I don't have the time or energy to figure that out while holding my family, friends, and community closely in protection and support as we deal with trauma, violence, and whatever else is to come. If you're not part of the community having to deal with anything of this nature, you should ask yourself if your part of the community allowing this hatred to blossom. You don't need to be the one sowing the seeds in order for the crop to flourish. The environment you ignore allows it to thrive without you. Tend to your damn garden, because it's ugly and out of control.

I'm not the only one with a lot of emotions and feelings to share about all this, so I'll be sharing others in my stories. To those that are sharing, I appreciate your openness and vulnerability.

There's a lot of people I know pushing forward and doing amazing things despite the challenges and obstacles this pandemic has placed in their way. My friend is one of them. Late last year I photographed an Outdoor Climbing 101 course he offered to BIPOC folx (swipe thru to see my faves of him in action). Afterwards we spoke of future plans and goals where he let me in on his dream to create a rock climbing guide service that'd be a multicultural hub for those aspiring to become guides. To provide opportunities and access for underrepresented minorities and non-english speakers to take part in the wonderful world of climbing and help build healthy communities. He's now manifested his dreams into reality with the FIRST guide service in Oregon owned and operated by a Latino Immigrant.

I'm proud of you, buddy! I can't wait to see what you achieve and the positive affect you'll have on people's lives as well as our corner of the outdoor world. Climb high!!

For everyone reading this, please give a follow. If you're looking for a rock climbing guide service in the PNW, please do consider !

Hey folks, it's been awhile! Finally deciding to crawl (or jump!) out of my cave and start posting again. I've missed using it as a place to store snippets of life, share beautiful moments, and to talk about hard ones. While I haven't been posting, I've still been shooting and hoarding images that I can't wait to share along with thoughtful perspectives, stories, and whatever else! There's no rules, but I can tell you that you can expect my show and tell to include inspiration, thoughtful perspectives, happy moments, LONG CAPTIONS :) and everything in-between. Looking forward to adding back to this visual journal and engaging with you again.

And since it's been awhile, if you're still here and this finds its way through the algorithm to you, comment and say hello!
