I've heard it said that if you want to stop yourself from buying frivolous camera gear, make sure that if you do buy something, it lets you do something new. This drone definitely checks that box.

Definitely still learning it and working on getting that smooth footage but it definitely let me get a shot here that was impossible to get with a standard drone.

Today started at 7:00 AM and with a nine-week-old that was pretty rough to get up for 😂

Wrapped up the day with Roadmaster with an FPV flight through their manufacturing facility. This was the first time flying inside their space so I took it pretty slow. We kept it at about a fast walking pace.

It was really cool to hear from just about everybody how much they appreciated being part of US-based manufacturing. I can't wait to start seeing this content go live!

Throwback to this time last year when I was working with the folks at Chilton Logging.

Makes you really realize how important the light is to tell the story you want to tell. If we hadn't started early with Frank, we would have missed out on those early morning twilight shots entirely.

Nothing like starting filming at 4:00 in the morning!

If you know anyone in the construction and logging industries who do awesome work and want to show it off, have them reach out or tag them here! Let's make things happen and share cool stories!

You know you've got an awesome engineer as your operations manager when he gets excited about the cardboard box machine!

It's okay because I got just about as excited about it once Jason explained how it worked.

I don't know about you but I never worked for a company where I could email somebody and get a custom box made on the spot.

Talk about closed-loop American manufacturing!

I'll be honest, I never expected to see this in Vancouver, Washington!

Last week, I got the opportunity to tour Roadmaster's manufacturing facility located just ten minutes away from where I live.

To see US produced raw materials transformed into finished products all under one roof was pretty incredible!

I had the camera rolling for the whole tour, so expect to see some more content from this soon, but I wanted to share one of the coolest moments.

Here they are forging the ends on a massive sway bar for a municipal bus. He would heat it up in an induction forge and then bring it over to a massive flywheel press with multiple dies and just work it through to the final shape.

Then he would bring it to a workbench and check the tolerances and make sure everything was aligning up where it was supposed to be.

Like I hinted at last week things did not go according to plan for content day with these guys.

The guys at Pacific Pool Works warned me that the logistics of bringing oversized loads across two state lines can be a little bit harrowing. Like the pool will show up the day it's supposed to show up but the specific timing really can be up in the air. As such they told me they were expecting the pool to be arriving around 11 and that if I showed up at 10 we would be just fine.
...I showed up at 9:55 and they were already attaching the pool to the crane....

I immediately went into rapid fire mode. There was no time to set up a bunch of complex cameras, to put my main camera on a gimbal, anything like that. So instead I got the 360 camera set up. I got my main camera on a shoulder strap and then I launched the drone. I've never gone from not filming to filming with three cameras faster in my life.

As I said last week there's a saying out there that when things get pressured you fail to the level of your systems. In this case I had done a lot of prep on the front end to be ready with video concept ideas and questions that I wanted to ask the crew about to make this content day be really effective for them.

I'm so glad that's standard practice for me because without those guidelines, had I just been left to my own creativity in a moment, I would have been way too caught up in the rush to get all the cameras set up.

Instead I had a plan and some video concepts that I was going to shoot and we were able to pull it off! One week after the shoot this client had ten videos ready for review and we will be posting them hopefully this week.

And just to be clear I'm not at all upset at the guys at Pacific Pool Works. They are great to work with and this was definitely a situation that required flexibility on everybody's part. I'm just really glad that even though things didn't go according to plan, we still got them some super awesome content and I can't wait to see what we create on the next shoot.

Spoiler: we're doing something that I don't think anybody really knew you can do with a fiberglass pool.

I'll share later how we got a month's worth of content in a four-hour shoot. It's true what they say: you fail to the level of your preparedness, and that was very evident on this shoot.

Here are some stills from the project in question for Pacific Pool Works.

Super excited to start seeing this content go live!
