Mixed media, cyanotype print on heavyweight paper
A poem written for the people who do all of the right things.
Recently, I have been paying a lot of attention to my inner child and been seeking out abandoned hobbies and interests. It’s been fulfilling trying to revive the life that was lost.
Thank you NICOLE IRENE MACARILAY CONDEZ for teaching me this new medium. 💙

to love you is to feel real
to read the careful phrases like braille in your soft palm
to watch you breach the lake surface and bring your beauty to my blues
you’re actively teaching me that your permanence isn’t in presence
but in the choices i make that have your name written all over it
and in each finger that strokes through my hair
they whisper to my genetic code
that there’s no need to run
whether through the weight of my soles
or the wait for your soul
i was stepping forward
to a brighter future
to a tender promise
thank you for being my favorite debater
and finding the most gentle way to prove me wrong
for running through the maze of my mind
and coming out never feeling lost
for having a family feel so familiar
that blood ran thick enough to even keep me together
for all that you do
i will forever continue to ask
“who else but you”
