Y’all—wish Nolan & Jessica a happy one week (and one day) anniversary. 🎉🎉🎉 I had hoped to get this sneak peek posted on their ONE WEEK anniversary, but with all the craziness of life, I missed it.
I shot my first wedding 13 years ago this month (it was my best friends’ wedding and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world) and we’ve been shooting weddings professionally for the past 11 years.
Fast forward to last week, shooting our very last wedding ever.
Y’all.
If we could have dreamt how we’d go out, it wouldn’t have been this amazing.
The Thiem family is literally *our family* at this point. We love each and every one of them and are so blessed to have them in our lives (y’all, start making plans to come down the River in Valentine, because we’re expecting you!).
I have no words.
Seriously.
Thank you for letting us be part of your day, and cheers to many, many years of happiness! 🥂

Tomorrow, April 12th, is National Vinyl Record Day commemorating the day Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877. Whether you have been listening to records your whole life, started collecting recently, or have had an itch to get into it—this day is for you!
Support your local record stores tomorrow (and everyday) and if you don’t have anything local, shoot me a DM and I’d love to recommend some great small businesses for you to follow and support from a distance!
I remember being four or five and sitting in the middle of my parent’s bedroom on the s**ggy blue carpet listening to Disneyland books on record. Y’all, I was hooked.
I started getting serious about collecting in 2004 and my collection has been expanding ever since. I grew up listening to a wide range of music—Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, all things classical, Country Western (although that was *never* my jam), Classic Rock, Alternative…you name it. And my collection is even more diverse.
This kid right here finally got the first Beatles album in her collection, and her excitement takes me right back to that blue s**g carpet. She might even have as good a taste in music as I do… 😉
What’s your story? When did you start? What do you want to be the first of your collection? What’s the “Holy Grail” album you’ve been looking for? I want to know!

One of the best things about listing to records is the fact that it’s something tangible. It’s a connection that you have to the music that you just don’t get from a random assortment of songs that play digitally and meaninglessly on your phone. You physically pull the vinyl from the sleeve, delicately set it on the turntable, gently lower the needle, and enjoy the album art and song lyrics that the artist has put so much time and effort into creating for a full, immersive music experience.
The same goes for discovering these gems. There is nothing like flipping through album after album trying to find that album you’ve been searching for years to find. You don’t just go to Apple Music and download the songs you want, without thinking twice. You don’t just Add to Up Next on Spotify. It’s the whole record store experience. It’s hard to appreciate what you don’t work for. It’s hard to appreciate something if you haven’t been searching for it. Unfortunately, our last record store experience has been so long ago, I can’t even remember when exactly it was. But I’m thankful for places like Black Hills Vinyl who have been bringing a glimpse of this to people at a distance even in the midst of a pandemic. Their weekly flip throughs of New Releases and New to You arrivals almost help you live it even when you can’t. Thankful for them putting up with people like me (or just me in general—the most needy customer 😳) who loves to order from a distance when I can’t be there in person. Looking forward to a time when we can make it back to Rapid City sometime soon and have the real experience again. Y’all, support your small businesses! And if you love vinyl as much as our family does, give Black Hills Vinyl a follow. This image is a throwback to several years ago when BHV helped Zoey get an official start on her record collection.

Some people just get you. and not only took me in off the street 15 years ago, but selflessly gave me the opportunity to make a life for myself in a new and strange city, fed me, and even introduced me to others as one of their children. I wasn’t easy to live with, but they never complained once. Well...maybe that one time, but I still say it was Noel (their corgi) that threw the party while they were out of town.
We moved thousands of miles away, but they will always have a piece of our hearts. Okay, maybe a pretty good chunk of our hearts. Their postcards along their travels always brings us joy (even though their travels need to bring them to Nebraska a *little* more often than it does 😉).
And then we came home to a package today.
It contained a selection of vinyl records, each with a sticky note as to why it meant something to them. It’s no secret that vinyl is my love language. And they filled my tank tonight.
I would have, no doubt, enjoyed listening to each of these regardless...but, now, thinking of the reasoning for including each album makes the miles feel a whole lot closer. ❤️❤️❤️ @ Valentine, Nebraska
