Ahhh yes! Despair makes us feel isolated and distant from God, but is precisely when we need God most. Despair over sin should not lead to self pity, causing us to think more about ourselves than God. Despair should lead to confession and then to God's mercy, forgiveness, and redemption. When we feel overwhelmed by a problem, feeling sorry for ourselves will only increase feelings of hopelessness, but crying out to God ( Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress Psalm 107:19) will turn our attention to the only One who can really help us.
If you don't know what despair is, here is the definition-the complete loss or absence of hope.
I hold this beautiful Psalm close to my heart. Key words here (and in his word). What words in this Psalm do you find as key?
But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.
I will wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.
Psalm 130:4-6
