I recently had the honor of photographing Dolores Huerta. I will never forget the wise words she shared with all of us. Thank you to the Texas Democratic Party for having us out to make portraits and cover this event.

This last year has not been an easy one for my beautiful friend Sarah. She is about to give birth to her second child and trials and tragedy have put things like Maternity sessions and small joys on the back burner. I’m so grateful that at the last minute, she invited me into her home to capture her natural and stunning beauty.

I can’t wait to meet the next member of your growing family ❤️

JoMando and Lynn 2020 on 120 HP5 black and white film.

In 2020 during the pandemic I was out of work for a while. Needing and outlet and having a lot of time on my hands I invited people to come to my back yard and sit for portrait sessions at a distance. The catch, they had to bring me a roll of black and white 120 film for my old medium format. I would develop it in the darkroom, scan it and deliver the images back. JoMando and Lynn were one of the first people to participate. I had painted this backdrop for an engagement session and felt like it would work well for what we were doing.

Looking back on the work I made in 2020 I’m started to remember how in 2019 I was finally breaking into a solid creative process and projects like “light and color” when it all came to a halt. I pivoted, broke into projects like the one above and found something I had been missing for a long time.
But as things started to get back to normal it felt like it all sped up so fast and I had to make up for lost time. Everything turned into “I need to take as much work as I can because I never know when it will come again” I blinked and 6 years later I haven’t painted a new backdrop or started my light and color project back up. It seems like I have less time now as a single mom but my plan for this year is hopefully to start pulling more creativity and custom things in to my work. For my clients and myself. This last year reminds me a lot of the pandemic in a personal way , Your ground is never solid but instead of trending lightly learn how to dance, Tomorrow is not promised so do it today. Listen to the people who love you and take the help. You don’t have to be the best at it, if you like it do it. I’m sure there is more there but this is already long winded.

Images I made of Justin J. Pearson speaking at the Texas Democratic Party Convention in Corpus Christi Texas 2026. Justin Person was one of the only speakers who I would later see in the audience watching and listening to the other presenters
