I asked Google’s AI, “When is it advisable to stop a year-long project without finishing it?” It answered, “when the cost-benefit ratio turns negative, your core priorities or ‘why’ have fundamentally shifted, or the opportunity cost of keeping it alive prevents you from pursuing more valuable work.”

Good answer, Google AI.

My year-long macro project has hit all the marks for quitting. It costs more time and emotional energy than the remaining benefits. The project no longer serves my future goals, so persisting is just a waste of time. Continuing to force it means I am neglecting more promising ideas that deserve my attention. If I asked myself the question (which Google AI recommends) “If I started today with what I know now, would I still choose to begin this?” the answer is “no.” Out of 44 weeks of working on this project I have less than a dozen images I really like. So, this week I quit.

Here are my favorites beginning with top left: balance, purple, out of focus, green, tools, yellow.

Sometimes it is more advisable to quit than to finish. This happens to be one of those times.

I’m not sure where October has gone but when I did the photo shoot for the November BOOM! Magazine yesterday I realized I’d never shared October’s cover profile! It was a pleasure to drive over to Pike Road and meet Steve Straughn for his cover profile session.
