If you are dreaming of a tropical vacation and want to hear the sound of ocean waves and lively music under a tiki hut, with a breathtaking view of an amazing Florida sunset with your feet in the sand, with a cool refreshing drink in your hand, then Sharky's at the Pier in Venice, Florida is the place to be! Sharky's is one of the most popular tourist attractions here in Venice, Florida. It sits at the end of the Venice Fishing Pier with an incredible view of the calm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The fishing pier in Venice, Florida is a popular place for fishing and a great place to watch the sunset at the end of the day. The pier extends 700 feet out into the blue waters of the Gulf, and sits very high above the water. The pier was renovated in the summer of 2019 to repair damage from a past hurricane. It is located in Brohard Park at the southern end of the Island of Venice. Caspersen Beach is just down the road where fossilized sharks teeth can be found. This place has a fun tropical vibe. It's a wonderful place to put your feet in the sand, listen to the waves of the Gulf of Mexico gently coming into the shore, and live tropical music playing from the tiki hut of Sharky's.

Florida summer skies can be quite dramatic. The afternoon storms come and go quickly. A couple years ago I was at the South Jetty in Venice, Florida watching the sunset over the Gulf. The sky turned purple, pink, and blue and it was getting really pretty. Then a storm came in from the south, and as I looked out towards the jetty the sky on the left was stormy and the sky on the right still had the sunset. It was so interesting even the water colors were different on each side of the jetty.

Right before we left I captured lightning in the far distance ~ something I normally don't capture, but it really added to the story of the photo with two different skies.

I started as a painter before getting into photography full time. Ever since I was little I loved painting and enjoyed creating different effects with the brush strokes. I majored in art in college and became an art teacher. My favorite style of painting is impressionism and how it uses color and brush strokes to create a mood.

After I became a full time photographer I was thrilled to find a software that could help me create painterly versions of my photos. The process is quite fun and I can adjust the size of the brushes and the amount on the photo. I usually leave small details of the image showing through the painting. It is impossible to recreate the exact same image twice so each painterly image is very unique and special.

This photo is a view of the Ringling Bridge and downtown Sarasota, Florida from Bayfront Park and Marina. Sailboats sit in the calm waters of Sarasota Bay. I edited this image in an impressionism painterly style. If you zoom into the image you can see brush strokes similar to Van Gogh's style. My favorite part of this image is the texture of the brush strokes in the water.

I have another version of this image that is with Cezanne style brush strokes, and the original image without brush strokes.

I am excited to announce that my photo, "Mystic Morning in Myakka, FL" tied for first place in the Florida Landscapes From All Time contest on Fine Art America! There were 74 images from around the world in the contest so I am honored!

This is one of my favorite photos taken of live oak trees in Myakka City. I was near the Myakka River after a lot of rain in the summer and the area filled up with so much water it created beautiful reflections under the trees. I love all the curved lines of the branches in this image, how they arch across the water and create beautiful patterns. The green growth on the branches are resurrection ferns. During the dry season they are brown, but after the summer rains they turn green overnight, hence the name.

I took the photo early in the morning when the fog appeared, and it added a softness in the distance. It really added to the mood of the photo!

I love Old Florida scenes like this very much and enjoy capturing them to preserve these memories for generations.

I will put the link to this photo in the comments so you can see it in more detail (print options available).

Thank you to the buyer from High Point, NC who purchased a 24 x 13.5 metal print of "John Ringling Causeway, Sarasota, Florida"! I hope you are enjoying it very much! I appreciate your support of my art.

I just love this photo. I went at golden hour in the morning when the sun was out and it lit up the Ringling Bridge against the bright blue sky. I stood at the perfect spot where the line of palm trees created a beautiful undulating pattern from left to right. The pink flowers were blooming on the bushes in the median. It was a lovely morning and I love the tropical vibe of this image.

This is the view from downtown Sarasota looking towards Bird Key. The Ringling Bridge is an iconic part of the Sarasota skyline and connects Sarasota to the beaches on Lido Key and Longboat Key and the shopping of St. Armand's Circle. People enjoy walking across the bridge and seeing the amazing long distance views over Sarasota Bay.

I have a series of images of the Ringling Bridge and the Sarasota skyline in my Sarasota collection on my Pixels website. I have some showing the Ringling Bridge lit up at night in different colors.

I will put the link to this photo in the comments so you can see it in more detail with print options.

Landscape Photography Tips for Golden Hour: Camera Settings 📸⭐

✅ Take landscape photos at golden hour to show the warmth of the sun on your subject. 😎
✅ Golden hour is right after sunrise in the morning and right before sunset in the evening.
✅ At golden hour the sun is bright and higher in the sky so you have to be careful where you put the sun in your photo.
✅ BEST TIP: Keep the sun behind you so it doesn't wash out your photo. Best colors are looking away from the sun.
✅ Plan your photoshoot time so the sun is hitting your subject from the side or the front, not backlit (makes it too dark).
✅ Keep the sun behind you. Go in the morning if you will be looking west. Go in the late afternoon if you will be looking east.
✅ If you face the bright sun do two things:
1. Keep the sun just outside your frame so it's not in your photo.
2. Or block the sun with an object like a tree or building.
✅At golden hour shadows are long. Look for interesting shadow patterns and shapes in your composition.
✅ Golden hour camera settings: Use Low ISO, aperture F/7.1 or higher number, fast shutter speed.
✅ Golden hour is bright light so you can shoot handheld at 1/40 second or faster. You will not need a tripod unless you want to do a long exposure with a ND filter.
✅ Use SOL App to see what time golden hour is for your photoshoot.

This is my favorite place to photograph. The view under the Venice Fishing Pier is like looking out into eternity. Standing there with my feet in the sand, the waves tunneling down through the pier and towards me at the beach, hearing the waves and watching the water patterns in the sand as the water pulls back into Gulf... seeing the glow of the mist spraying into the air as waves tumble... this is my happy place. The photograph opportunities are endless. I did a long exposure to bring out a mysterious mystical feel, soften the waves, and stretch the clouds. This is like a view into eternity.

The fishing pier in Venice, Florida is a great place to watch the sunset at the end of the day. The pier extends 700 feet out into the blue waters of the Gulf, and is very tall. It is located in Brohard Park at the southern end of the island of Venice. There is a restaurant called Sharky's on the end of the pier. Caspersen Beach is just down the road where fossilized sharks teeth can be found. This is one of the most popular landmarks in Venice.

I also have a color version of this image.
