Last week I got to snuggle 4 newborns. FOUR. And every single one of them was different. Some slept like little rocks. Some needed to eat. Some needed a diaper change (or 3). Some needed to be rocked and shushed for a while before they were ready to go again. And that's totally fine! I always block off 3 hours for a newborn session, even though most of my sessions end up being closer to 1–2 hours. I don't want anybody feeling like we're on the clock. If baby needs to eat, we eat. If baby needs to be changed, we change 'em. If baby needs some extra snuggles before we try again, we snuggle. But here's the part I REALLY want expecting mamas to know...
**Book your newborn session early.** Like, while you're still pregnant early. 😂
The earlier you book, the more dates I have to work with around your due date, and you are guaranteed a spot on my calendar.
I recommend doing your session within the first two weeks after birth. And I KNOW. Those first two weeks are HARD. You're tired. You're figuring out this whole newborn thing. But those first couple of weeks are also when babies tend to be the sleepiest and easiest to settle into all those sweet, squishy newborn poses.
So don't wait until baby is here to start thinking about pictures. Get on my calendar while you're pregnant, and then when baby gets here, we'll figure out the exact date.
