Restoration doesn’t always end when a car returns to the road. The owner has brought this GTO back, with a few more things still needed to get it right. It was the only GTO at the Stars & Stripes show, making it a particularly notable sight among the American cars gathered at Tatton Park. Photographed by me at Tatton Park, Cheshire, UK, in gorgeous weather.

By the late fifties, American styling had become almost theatrical, and this looks like it belongs beneath the lights of a downtown boulevard.

Large four-door sedans were central to American family motoring, but details like rear-hinged doors made some models stand apart. The Custom was the more upscale of DeSoto’s two main 1948 series. Photographed by me at the Stars & Stripes show, Tatton Park, Cheshire, UK, among a brilliant collection of American classics.

There was a fantastic atmosphere at Tatton Park, with American cars gathered from different eras. In Buick's 1941 range, the Super sat above the Special, offering a more substantial model with distinctive styling. It was wonderful to see such an early American convertible among the cars at this UK gathering.

Rainy weather couldn't spoil a great gathering of American classics at Snetterton. This Barracuda was one of my personal favourites, looking remarkably fresh for a car from 1966. The original Barracuda debuted in 1964, arriving before the Ford Mustang and introducing Plymouth's distinctive fastback design.

The early ’60s were a distinctive period for American luxury cars, and Cadillac was one of the names that defined it. I spotted this white convertible at Snetterton, Norfolk, on a rainy show day.

Four Doors Never Stopped A Proper American Classic From Looking Good.

The 1955 Bel Air helped change Chevrolet forever. Its bold styling and revolutionary small-block V8 made it a landmark in American motoring. But was 1955 really the best-looking year of the Tri-Five era?

This was built for everyday life, yet seventy years later people stop what they're doing just to admire it.

Big American Coupes Peaked Before Downsizing Ruined Everything.

Long hood, sweeping body lines and big block power. The 1973 Monte Carlo blended personal luxury with serious V8 muscle, creating a coupe that could cruise in comfort without sacrificing its American attitude.

LaSalle Was Too Good To Be Cadillac’s Forgotten Little Brother.

Elegant, understated and unmistakably prewar American luxury. The 1940 LaSalle combined sweeping bodywork with Cadillac-engineered V8 power, creating a distinctive classic from the final year of the LaSalle marque.
