Meet Zulaa Winkler, Senior Housekeeping Manager at Fairmont Chicago, who believes the guest room is the heart of the hotel. Leading a predominantly female team she describes as sisters and mothers, Zulaa brings a personal sense of care to every stay.

And with some of Chicago’s most spacious guestrooms, just steps from Millennium Park, there’s plenty of room to make guests feel at home.

We turned the lens toward Zulaa to share the people and purpose behind that welcome.

Head in the clouds, feet firmly planted in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

Celebrating 10 years, Kimpton Journeyman takes its name from a well-traveled craftsman with stories to tell. Those stories live in the details: a 15-foot cloud-like chandelier above the lobby, furnishings inspired by Milwaukee’s historic locomotives and vintage posters celebrating the city’s iconic Summerfest.

Our latest collection of imagery gives that sense of escape a little room to wander.

For Chef John Manion, it’s a little piece of São Paulo, te city where he grew up, brought to life in Chicago’s West Town. From warm pão de queijo and coastal flavors to the people, design and atmosphere surrounding it all, every detail plays a part in taking you somewhere else.

For founders Julie and Lou, it’s about bringing people together in the community they’ve called home for over 20 years, guided by one simple philosophy: everyone should leave happy, whether they stopped in for a Pumpkin Spice Latte or stayed long enough to make a new friend.

We carried that same spirit into a seasonal email campaign, revealing a little more to love beneath the surface.

At Elder NYC, tradition is meant to leave the frame.

Chef Sujan Sarkar reimagines the classic London chop house through an Indian lens, bringing artistry to everything from prime cuts, live fire and layered spice to the walls themselves, where “Red Heel” by London-based photography duo Ulas & Merve brings its own surreal point of view.

We carried that same spirit into this collection of imagery.

There are secrets in this hummus. Chef Zach Engel was nice enough to share a few.

The rest might be harder to replicate: growing up as the son of a rabbi, formative trips to Israel and a career that took him through the kitchens of Catit in Tel Aviv, Zahav in Philadelphia and Shaya in New Orleans before opening Galit Restaurant in Chicago.

All of that history, distilled into a bowl of hummus. We got very close to this one. For research, obviously.

A burl is shaped by what surrounds it. So is Burl Evanston.

Its Rule of 80 means sourcing at least 80% of the menu through a local food network of farmers, growers and makers, including some unexpected ones. Third Coast Superior Fish Sauce is made from herring in St. Paul, Minnesota, making it the first and only fish sauce of its kind produced in the U.S.

Making waves on the North Shore, Chef Todd Stein’s Juniper on Green Bay leaves plenty of room to play: sashimi and nigiri from Executive Sushi Chef Akira Yang, ribeye steak frites and rotisserie chicken, yuzu-verbena gimlets, and, fittingly, a 35-foot Lake Michigan sunrise mural stretching across the dining room.
