Out of the corner of my eye, walking around my yard, I saw something shimmer up this tree. I went around to the back of my yard and saw this mama watching me. Clearly she has a den that she is protecting. Maybe I'll get a glimpse of the babies (from a distance of course).​​​​​​​​

Finally the baby is big enough to be seen. To recap, this nest is in my front yard very high up (about 75 feet). It was built by red-shouldered hawks and they nested here for the past few years. This winter, the Great Horned Owls took it over as their own. This is my first glimpse of the baby, seems as there is only one. I am on the ground, very far away from this nest using a 600mm cropped in so as not to disturb mama and baby. ​​​​​​​​
