Sick days as a mom aren’t really sick days.

You might be off work from your 9–5.
But the kids don’t do sick days.

Meals.
Laundry.
Picking up toys.
Changing diapers.
Wiping butts.
Hoping there’s groceries in the house.

You’re probably doing more than you would’ve done at work… except now you’re doing it sick.

Moms don’t really get sick days.

We just get excused from one job so we can drag ourselves through the other.

The friends that become family are one of life’s greatest blessings.

There’s no blood relation.
No real obligation.
But they treat you like family.

And more importantly, they treat your babies like family.

Sometimes the village is made up of friends your kids call aunts and uncles, even though there’s no blood tying any of you together.

But your kids will never know the difference.
Because they’re loved just the same.

That kind of bond matters when you’re raising children.

A strong community.
People they trust.
People who show up.

And the peace of mind knowing that if something ever happened to you, your babies would still have so much love surrounding them.

Your kids will never know the version of you that existed before you became their mom.

They’ll never know the girl you were before diaper bags replaced purses and someone else’s needs became louder than your own.

They won’t know what you gave up.
What you outgrew.
Or everything in you that changed when they came along.

They’ll only ever know you as Mom.

They’ll never know who you were before them.

But you’ll always remember her.

And sometimes you miss her.
Sometimes you’re glad you’re not her anymore.

Because motherhood didn’t just give you them.

It gave you a completely different version of yourself, too.

The older I get, the more quiet drives I tend to have.

And usually, I don’t even realize it.

There’s so much noise in everyday life, and even more when you’re a mom.
Sometimes even the radio feels like too much.

There’s just something about true silence.
Taking the back road, even if it adds a few minutes. A scenic view, a quiet drive, and a little time to clear your mind and remember the small things you have to be thankful for.

You’ll probably pull into the driveway with some sort of chaos waiting for you.

But you got a few minutes of quiet before walking back into the noise.

And sometimes, that little reset is enough to make everything feel a bit lighter.

The weekend never feels like enough because it isn’t.

When you break it down, working 5 days and being off 2 ain’t it.

Most of us work all day Friday, get Saturday, and by Sunday we’re already getting back into routine, getting in bed, and preparing to do it all over again.

So really, we get ONE day.

And even that one day is usually spent catching up on everything your house, your family, and your life needed from you while you were busy working all week.

No wonder we’re tired.

We’re trying to fit an entire life into the very small spaces work leaves behind.

Marriage with kids is a whole lot of “I miss you” while sitting right beside each other.

You still love each other deeply.

But somehow an entire week passes and all you’ve talked about is lunches, bills, appointments, work, and who’s handling bedtime.

You’re together every day, but you haven’t really been together.

Because sometimes life gets so busy raising the family you built together,

you forget to make time for the love that built it.

One day your house will stay clean, and I think that’s going to hurt more than we realize.

Right now, the fingerprints on the windows, toys across the floor, crumbs on the couch, and shoes kicked off everywhere can drive you absolutely insane.

You clean it up just for them to come behind you and make another mess.

But one day, you’ll clean it…

and it’ll stay that way.

Because the little people who made a home out of your mess grew up.

And I think we’re going to miss picking up those shoes more than we ever thought we would.

One day you’re bathing them in the kitchen sink.
Then it’s the bathtub, surrounded by way too many toys and water all over the floor.

And somehow, before you’re ready, it’s the shower.

They don’t need you to wash their hair anymore.
They don’t need you to rinse the soap off their back.

And the part that gets you is you never knew the last time was the last time.

You just drained the tub, picked up the toys, and moved on with your night.

Meanwhile, a whole little piece of their childhood had just ended.

And you didn’t even know to miss it yet.

Moms don’t always fall apart when they’re struggling.

Sometimes they just get quieter.

They still pack the lunches.
Answer the questions.
Fold the clothes.
Show up where they’re supposed to be.

They keep everyone’s world turning while barely holding their own together.

And that’s the scary part about a tired mom.

She can be completely overwhelmed and still make sure nobody else feels the weight of it.

Sometimes “I’m fine” just means everyone else needed me more today.

You can’t breathe underwater, but somehow you’re surviving while drowning.

You’re overwhelmed.
Mentally exhausted.
Trying to keep up with everything and everyone who needs you.

And somehow, you still manage to show up like everything is fine.

Because that’s what moms do.

We hold everyone else above water while quietly running out of air ourselves.

We take care of everyone else first, then wonder why there’s nothing left for us.

Sometimes the mom who looks like she has it all together is the one who desperately needs someone to ask if she’s okay.
