PSA to all the newly engaged couples hiring photographers!

Important questions to ask your wedding photographer when booking or shopping around!

Your wedding photographs are one of the most valuable investments you will make for your wedding day. Taking the time to ask the right questions before booking a photographer helps ensure your memories are protected and professionally handled.

Here are three essential questions every couple should ask, along with why they matter.

1. What is your backup plan if something happened and you were unable to attend our wedding?

Unexpected situations can arise. A professional wedding photographer should have a clear contingency plan in place, such as a trusted associate photographer or professional network, to ensure your wedding day is still fully covered without disruption.

2. What would you do if your main camera broke during the wedding?

Equipment failure is always a possibility. An experienced photographer will arrive with multiple camera bodies and lenses to ensure continuous coverage throughout the day. This level of preparation prevents missed moments and keeps your timeline on track.

3. What is your process for backing up our photos?

Your images should be protected at every stage. A professional workflow includes using multiple memory cards, backing up files immediately after the event, and storing images securely. This ensures your photographs are safe from loss or corruption and preserved for the long term.

Choosing a photographer who can confidently answer these questions provides peace of mind and reflects a commitment to professionalism and reliability.

UPDATE: Bride has been chosen

As we step into the new year, I want to share something very close to my heart.

For the 2026 season, I will be gifting one couple a completely free wedding, elopement, or engagement photography session.

Over the past few months, I’ve been honored to do lots of donation shoots, and I’ve seen firsthand how many couples, especially brides, are struggling to find a photographer within their budget. Weddings are expensive, and photography is such an important part of preserving those memories.

I absolutely love what I do, and I am beyond grateful for the incredible people I’ve had the chance to meet through this work. Giving back in this way feels meaningful and necessary, especially during a time when so many are doing their best to make things work.

This complimentary wedding photography package includes:
• Full wedding coverage
• A full gallery of 700+ high resolution digital images

How to be considered:
• Comment your wedding date and wedding location, or share your vision for an engagement session
• You are welcome to nominate another couple
• Share this post to help spread the word

I would truly love for this to go to someone who genuinely needs it. I know so many people are struggling right now, and I want to do what I can to help.

This opportunity is exclusive to Oregon weddings.
Travel limit is preferably 3 hours.

Thank you for supporting Shutter & Sage Photography and allowing me to continue doing what I love 🤍

I want to take a moment to address something that’s been weighing on my heart. I recently became aware of a situation within the photography community (not my business or me) that didn’t sit right with me. Without going into details or naming names, I want to be very clear about where I stand.

I do not agree with business practices that leave clients feeling hurt, dismissed, or taken advantage of. I never want to make anyone feel bad for trusting me, and I would never take someone’s money without delivering what was promised.

I strive to run my business with honesty, respect, and clear communication. Clients deserve to feel valued, heard, and taken care of, always. That is the standard I hold myself to and will continue to stand by.🙌🏻💛❤️

This year hasn’t been easy. Having surgeries slowed me down in ways I didn’t expect, and there were moments I questioned myself and my progress. But today I’m choosing to celebrate. 💛 Being featured twice and published both times in Shutter Up Magazine means more to me than I can put into words. It’s proof that even when life forces you to slow down, your passion and hard work still matter. I’m so proud of myself for not giving up and for continuing to create through it all. ✨📸

At Shutter & Sage Photography, I truly believe that choosing a photographer for your wedding or engagement is about so much more than just pretty photos.
I truly cannot express enough how important it is to do your research. Look through full galleries, read reviews, ask questions, and make sure their style, personality, experience, and approach align with what you’re envisioning for your day. Your photographer will be with you during some of the most intimate and emotional moments, so feeling comfortable and confident with them and theit work matters.
I also want to say this clearly: it is completely okay to say no. Deciding to go with another photographer does not hurt feelings, and it does not require an explanation. Finding the right fit is what matters most, and every couple deserves a photographer who truly matches their vision, style and energy.
Whether that photographer is me or someone else, I always want couples to feel empowered, informed, and excited about their choice. When the fit is right, the experience and the photos are that much more meaningful 🤍
If you ever have questions or want to chat about what to look for in a photographer, I’m always happy to help.
