POV: When the right vendors come together.

The DJ reads the room.
The planner keeps everything on schedule.
The bartender keeps drinks flowing.
The photographer never misses a moment.

Most couples think vendors are individual decisions.
In reality, they’re creating one experience together.

So major major show out to the team that made the Wynn and Lauren’s wedding as spectacular as it was:

Hot take: wedding parties aren’t really about the photos.

As someone who didn’t have one at my own wedding, I thought skipping it would save time, money, and a whole lot of logistics.

And honestly? It did.

Nobody had to buy a dress they didn’t love. Nobody had to stand through a long ceremony. Nobody had obligations, schedules, or expectations. But there were a few things I didn’t expect to miss.

Nobody was there to fluff my dress before photos. Nobody was carrying my phone, lipstick, or random wedding-day essentials.
Nobody was fixing a stray hair or reminding me to eat. Nobody was standing beside me during all those little in-between moments.

Because the truth is, a great wedding party isn’t really about standing at the altar.

It’s about having your people with you.

The people who keep the energy high when it’s 90 degrees outside. The people who make you laugh when it’s raining on and off. The people who jump on the party bus, hold your bouquet, hype you up, and somehow make chaos feel fun.

Looking back, I don’t regret keeping my wedding simple. But I do understand now why so many couples choose to have a wedding party.

Not for the matching outfits. For the memories, the support, and the people who help carry the day right alongside you.

These photos were taken on a hot July afternoon with rain threatening every few minutes, and yet you’d never know it. Just a group of people having the absolute best time celebrating their friends.

And honestly, that’s probably the best argument for a wedding party I’ve got.

Spent my morning looking through wedding galleries to send to a potential couple and ended up reliving entire weddings from last year. Not because I was looking for portfolio pieces but because so many of the photos looked completely new to me.

Which is insane considering I took the photos. Edited them. Delivered them. Probably stared at them for 40+ hours.

I think that’s what happens with wedding galleries. The first time you look through them, you’re searching for the obvious ones. The posting photos. The profile picture. The frame-worthy portraits. The “everyone needs to see this immediately” images.

But years later, your eyes go somewhere else entirely.

You start noticing who was there.
Who was watching you.
Who won’t always be around.
Who loved you loudly.
Who cried when they thought nobody could see them.

Suddenly the photo you skipped over becomes the one that wrecks you.

Which is exactly why I photograph weddings the way I do.
Not just for what the day looked like but for what it will mean later. Even to me 🤍

The night before with and at 🤍🐎

To say this past weekend was perfect would be an immense understatement. I knew from my first call with Kaleigh that I was going to have so much fun working with her and Nick but I don’t think I was prepared to also absolutely love all of their friends and family as well.

While I could go on and on about my little excursion to Lexington, I will let these photos speak for themselves. And maybe you’ll get a glimpse into their exceptionally beautiful day soon 😏

Sometimes the ideas in my head are hard to execute in real life. And this session, was one of them.

Living in Kentucky, I thought a photoshoot with a majestic horse and rolling hills seemed like a no brainer. Until I realized the logistics of getting to said rolling hills with a horse that seemed a little nervous to be leaving her home. So we worked with what we had and Madison used her photoshop magic.

I would like to start this by saying that this session was a brain creation from Madison. Which meant I did not charge for it and my turn around time was significantly slower since my paying clients came first. BUT that also meant that when I sat down to work on the photos, I could do whatever the fuq I wanted with them 🤗

Which meant completely photoshopping the entire background. I turned a photo I felt meh about to one that I fully plan on printing for my wall. (Because let’s me honest, who wouldn’t want face blown up on their wall)

The photography world has this fine line between being creative and realistic. There are people that argue that AI is ruining our memories while others argue it’s important to understand how to use it. For me, I just want to be creative. In any way I can.

So Danielle got in front of my lens on a dreary fall day and worked with me while “my brain was braining”. She was patient when I was editing. She was honest if she didn’t like the direction we went in. And she ran with every weird pose I had.

So yes, half this photo isn’t real. But it’s real to me. And I’m real damn proud of it.

The most important question to ask yourself when you’re planning your engagement session: Does this feel like us?

With social media, it is very easy to see a cute TikTok or a perfectly curated Pinterest photo and want that same vibe. To see another photographer or couple you know post something that’s so stunningly beautiful that you can’t help but want to recreate it.

And if it matches your vibe, hell yeah. Run with it.

But what if it doesn’t?

When you show up to a location in outfits you’re not comfortable in and a background that seems foreign to you, the photos will feel foreign. It’ll take you longer to relax and open up. If you’re used to a quiet countryside and were running around a busy city, it’ll feel congested and distracting.

Your photo sessions were never meant to go viral on social media or pop on someone’s Instagram feed. They’re meant to be printed for your living room walls. They’re meant to be looked at in 50 years by your grandchildren. And showcasing what makes you YOU is the best way to document this incredibly beautiful time in your life.

Some questions to ask yourself if you’re freshly engaged and trying to plan your engagement session:
- What do we want to wear? Do I feel more myself in a dress or in pants? Does my significant other want to wear jeans or dress pants?
- What made me fall in love with my partner? What spaces stick out as important places in our story?
- What story do I want to tell with these photos? Do I want them candid and perfectly messy? Or editorial and posed?
- What location, time of year, and time of day will make me and my partner most comfortable? Do we struggle in the heat or do we thrive with a little warmth on our skin?

Some of these questions can seem absurd in the moment but can completely change your engagement photo experience. Because I would be remised not to remind you that your engagement session is indeed supposed to be a fun memory of this exciting moment in your life. I promise, you won’t regret spending the extra time creating something that feels effortless and uniquely you.

It’s about that time of year where I pull myself out from under the dark weather rock to chase flowers, colors, and all the beautiful spring things. Quickly reminding myself that my job means I get to run around in warm weather and document beautiful people and beautiful places and create beautiful art. So if you want to make something beautiful, my creative juices are FLOWING 🌸🌷🌼 Happy Hump Day, friends 🤗

To my future husband on our wedding day,

Today I get to spend the morning with my friends getting pampered. I’ll get my hair and makeup done and feel like a princess. I’ll see my parents and we will cry and hug and dote about our past.

I’ll spend the evening with all the people I haven’t seen in a long time. Dancing and laughing and forgetting I was ever stressed about buying decor and timelines.
But every time I imagine this day, the only part I can think about is walking down that aisle to see you.

15 years ago, I started my morning insanely stressed. I was about to start my first day at a new high school and I knew no one. I didn’t have any friends and I didn’t have a plan other than to “make it through the day”. And that’s exactly what I did.

As I walked out of Ryle to head home, I kept thinking about how excited I was to get out of that building. To go home and finally relax. So I ran to the bus, definitely sure I’d be the first one there.

As I turned those steps, I was surprised to see I wasn’t alone.

There was a doe eyed, curly headed cutie standing in the aisle towards the back of the bus. I started walking towards a seat near the middle and this handsome boy smiled his infectious smile and said “you have really cool shoes”. And that was it.

A day that made me so anxious became one of my favorite memories. The day that I met my best friend. The day I truly learned what “love at first sight” meant.

And today we recreate that. I get to walk down that aisle to the boy with that infectious smile. The one that makes me feel safe, and loved, and chosen every day.

If I’ve been a little MIA recently, it’s because I get to make this incredible man my husband in 10 days 🥹

Doing a short engagement has taught me so much about the other side of the industry and I give major kudos to every single one of my brides because this s**t is STRESSFUL. But somehow, the last couple days have been surprisingly relaxing. Getting the final touches organized, picking up our rings, and knowing that everything is falling into place has made all of it worth it.

And most of all? Looking at that handsome man and knowing that no matter what I will always be okay. That every fear and stress I’ve ever had in my life no longer exists because he won’t let it. Having someone that cares for me and mine as much he does for anyone in his life.

So if I’m a little slow at responding or not posting as much or simply ignoring my phone, I promise it won’t last for much longer. Because in 10 days and counting I will OFFICIALLY be Mrs. Mince 🤭
