It's definitely inspiring to witness the climbers in person and the scale they were able to defeat 👏

First couple nights out in Cancun, I had searched and searched for highly reviewed restaurants and just couldn’t find anything that I felt was truly local! Everything seemed commercialized or just for the Instagram pics …lame

So street food it was! Definitely a gamble but I can certainly say it was my top 3 highlights of Mexico. I ended up coming back to this taco vendor 3 times during my trip.

If you are ever in Cancun, look up Tacos Los Carbones!

Forks Campground is another backcountry hike that’s only 7.6km to campsite and fairly flat so it’s easy for beginners and children! We were fortunate this time because our friends had never experienced backcountry before so we thought we’d show them what it’s all about 🙈 These two individuals were at least willing to try it and experience everything with an open mind! So proud of them and grateful to share these moments!

This is our little hiker Max! He may look small but this 9 year old stud will hike any mountain!!!

Interlake Campground is a first come first serve campsite with 48 sites for both RV and tents. If you’re lucky and can find a spot that backs onto the lake, you’ll never want to leave, especially with the mountains as your backdrop!

Lillian Lake, Kananaskis is a great hike for all individuals including families as it’s only 6km (one way) to the lake where I was able to spent a night (backcountry). If I had spent another night I would of brought my fishing gear as there were a few individuals trying to catch trout.

Another great thing about this campsite is being able to drop off your gear and continue hiking, as 15 minutes further you’ll find two stunning blue water lakes called Upper and Lower Galatea Lake (pic 2 & 3). If your really adventurous, you can do my favourite hike up to Ribbon Falls!!!

I am fortunate to say that we survived our first close encounter with a bear!

Usually from our previous encounters with bears, they usually mind their own business and run away.

Not this time!

In this particular situation, the bear was heading down the path we were going through and as we were going up, I saw this massive but beautiful bear slowly walking towards us. I would say 30 feet in-front of us at least! And as soon as we saw the bear, we all stopped including the bear and just looked at one another in disbelief!!!

I quickly pulled out my bear spray and sprayed right at its face, it then slowly took off up the mountain for a couple seconds….but as we could hear it rustling in the trees, I realized that the bear really had no where else to go because it was right up against a rock mountain. So of course, the bear jumps back onto our path and starts charging us!!!

As soon as we both see the bear start charging us, adrenaline kicks in for both of us and we start running with our backcountry gear still strapped on, and trying to spray behind us at the same time.

Unfortunately for me, Chelsey unintentionally bear sprayed me while in action (the spread and wind made it go towards me)!!! That was the most intense and painful experience as my entire face and arms were burning, I was losing my vision quickly and my breathing was a little compromised. All I can say is, I am lucky that we both made it out safe and the only thing I lost were my sunglasses!

What I would recommend next time would to purchase bear bangers, which is a pen that creates a gunshot sound and I think that would of scared it a lot more than our shouting and bear spray. Although I am still going to keep bear spray with me!
