There's something about open skies that gives me a feeling of calm. It soothes the pressing feelings of claustrophobia that walls and ceilings and doors cause.

There's nothing better to me than planting my feet on the ground and looking up at the dusk sky. That feeling of the earth cooling off. The rising moon. The stars coming out.

This time of day is called blue hour. Blue hour is a lovely time for silhouette shots, or to play with lights. In the summer, it's that long period before it's super dark.

My Clients Describe Me

As a calming presence. I’m often asked how I do that. How I can make people feel so much more grounded and relaxed when everything and everyone else is chaotic.

Something else I’ve been told countless times over the years by clients is that I’m like a ninja. During those important parts of the day, I’m quiet and unobtrusive. I’m unnoticeable to guests. But I’m quick and everywhere I need to be when I need to be there.

You don’t want to look at your photos and think about me. About something I made you do. I don’t want to be part of your memories. That’s weird AF. I just want to make you feel comfortable enough to let your guard down so you can just be in the moment and like, relive some old happy memories with your people or make some awesome new ones. (New ones that you talk about for years to come will DEF be made at the reception.)

If you want guidance, I’ll give you guidance. That’s what I’m here for. But for most of the group photos, I’m just giving gentle guidance and still giving ya’ll the space to be yourselves. I feel like the quality of your photos - and by quality, I mean more the subjects. The emotion. The relationships captured. The quality is more important than quantity. It’s more important to have a few photos that mean something to you than a bunch of posed photos that don’t mean anything.

Oh, the family formals. That’s the one time when I’m loud and direct. I get that ish done quick and painlessly. I’m so good at family formals that I was asked to shoot a photo line for President Biden (back when he was the V.P., but still. This is bragging rights.)

I'm a sucker for a dramatic bit of light. And great texture. And ivy growing on brick. This just has has allllllla that.

So for my third IG post here, I thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm Jaimie. I've been photographing weddings for 21 years which now that I type that out OMFG that's a really long time. Wow. Doesn't seem like it.

Anyway, I'm from St. Louis, MO, where I hate the weather 99% of the year. Deep in the midst of a 15 day stretch of like, no sun and 20 degrees, and overwhelmed with seasonal depression, I decided I had enough. Just because my ancestors crossed the Mississippi and found it so daunting they basically gave up and stayed put doesn't mean I have to.

So here we are. I'll be splitting my time between STL and Joshua Tree, where the desert makes me happy.

Beginning in the spring of 2023, I'll be accepting elopements and small weddings in the Joshua Tree / Palm Springs area.

Welcome to Indigo Moon Photo Co.

I'm a documentary wedding + elopement photographer.

This is Max + Alissa. They had a destination wedding at Max's parents' farm in Missouri because they love it there, and they wanted to share that experience with their family and friends.

There were hot air balloons, donkeys with bows, food trucks, and fireworks. There were afternoon swims in the lake, ponies in the fields, meals with friends, and nights spent in yurts.

As beautiful the scenery, and as fun as the details were, the people present were the most important to Max + Alissa. Because the people make up the story. The things are just the props and the location is just the setting.

When I photograph the start of a marriage, I focus on the people. I tell their story. I give them the space to feel comfortable enough to be their selves. Because no matter where your wedding takes place, no matter what the background, the people are the best part.
