WORKING WOMEN’S WEDNESDAY 🐾❤️

Sometimes, the smallest beginnings lead us to the biggest things.

In 2013, Courtney Marie Silvers welcomed a little puppy named Maya into her life.

Maya was timid. Shy. Unsure of the world around her.

And Courtney wanted to help her.

So, she went to school to learn how to train dogs.

As Courtney watched Maya gain confidence and blossom through training, something happened.

She found her passion.

Because seeing what training had done for Maya made Courtney want to give other dogs that very same opportunity.

And that, my friends, is how the story of Bullseye Canine Training, LLC. began.

Originally from Georgia, Courtney started her business in Arizona ten years ago before eventually bringing it here to Alabama.

She began working out of her home, but two years ago, she built a dedicated facility for her growing business.

And getting to see what she’s built firsthand was pretty incredible.

But what impressed me most wasn’t the facility.

It was Courtney herself.

I watched her interact with dogs that weren’t even hers with such patience, gentleness, and understanding.

She offers board-and-train programs, where dogs stay with her for extended periods while they work on their training. And while they’re away, their families receive pictures and videos of their progress.

Something I particularly loved about Courtney’s approach is that she intentionally limits how many dogs she takes at once.

Not because she doesn’t have the opportunity to take more, but because she wants to give each dog the individual attention it deserves.

She wants to learn their personalities. Understand their temperaments. Figure out what makes them tick.

Because training isn’t one-size-fits-all.

And Courtney understands that.

But perhaps the sweetest part of this entire story is the little dog who started it all.

This past September, Courtney said goodbye to Maya after thirteen years together.

The same timid puppy who inspired her to pursue dog training. The same little girl who showed her just how much patience, understanding, and a little guidance could change a dog’s world.

And while Maya may no longer be by Courtney’s side, I think her legacy is pretty extraordinary.

Because every time Courtney helps another dog grow in confidence, she’s continuing something that started with Maya all those years ago.

A little puppy who needed someone to believe in her.

And a woman who turned that love into a life’s work.

Ten years of Bullseye Canine Training. Thirteen years of loving Maya. And a legacy that’s still helping other dogs blossom. 🐾

Every photographer has a first bride. 🤍

Someone who takes a chance on them. Someone who sees something in their work worth believing in, even before they’ve had the opportunity to photograph a wedding.

For me, that someone was Haley Olson.

When Haley reached out about photographing her elopement celebration, she knew this would be my very first wedding adjacent event. She knew I was still relatively new to photography. And she trusted me anyway.

I don’t think she’ll ever fully understand just how much that means to me.

Because when you’re building something from the ground up, especially something you’ve fallen so deeply in love with, every single person who believes in you matters.

And I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t nervous. I was shaking in my flat-toed shoes😂

I wanted so badly to do right by her. To capture the moments that she and Travis will look back on 20 years from now. The little glances, the laughter, the love, and all the things that make their story uniquely theirs.

But somewhere between the nerves, the family portraits, and all those little moments in between, I realized something.

I was doing it.

The very thing I once wondered if I was capable of doing.

And when I got home and started going through their photographs, I couldn’t help but feel proud. Not because everything was perfect, or because I suddenly had it all figured out, but because I had stepped outside of my comfort zone and done something that once felt so far out of reach.

Haley, thank you for trusting me with memories you don’t get to recreate. Thank you for seeing something in my work worth taking a chance on. And thank you for allowing me to be a small part of such a special chapter in your story.

I hope there are many more weddings, many more milestones, and many more love stories in the future of O How Sweet Photography.

But there will only ever be one first.

And I’ll always be grateful that mine was yours. 🤍

Working Women’s Wednesday ☕️ | The Artsy Place Florence + The Artsy Place Muscle Shoals / The Coffee Place Florence 🩷

Ten years ago, a young woman in her early twenties took a chance on something she loved.

But her story started long before she became a business owner.

Back in high school, she began working at a little place in Muscle Shoals called Lucy’s. What started as a job quickly became something she fell in love with. And eventually, she purchased that very business from the woman she’d once worked for.

She had a vision for what she wanted it to become, and she was determined to make it happen.

And here’s one of my favorite parts of her story.

She didn’t have a background in coffee.

She simply started visiting a local coffee shop, and when the opportunity came to purchase their equipment, she took it.

Then she taught herself.

Because sometimes building the life you want means figuring things out as you go.

Fast forward ten years.

That young woman who once worked at Lucy’s now has TWO locations and has just celebrated a decade in business.

A decade of learning, growing, adapting, and pouring herself into something that started as a high school job.

I think it’s easy to walk into a local business, order a coffee, admire the atmosphere, and never really think about the person who made it all happen.

But behind this place is a woman who has dedicated a huge part of her life to making it what it is today.

And that’s what I hope to accomplish with Working Women’s Wednesday.

To remind people that the businesses we love don’t just appear overnight. They’re built by real people, with real stories, who decided to give something a chance.

And sometimes, that chance turns into ten years of doing something you love. 🩷🩷🩷
