As a wedding photographer, I’m always looking for ways to stay behind the camera instead of accidentally stepping into the moment. One small thing that makes a big difference on a wedding day is having a parent or family member help the bride carry her dress while she walks.
Not only does it free me up to actually photograph what’s happening, but it also creates moments like this. Mom and dad adjusting the dress, helping her walk, anticipating the next part of the day. Those are the kinds of organic interactions that make a wedding gallery feel personal. If I were the one holding the dress, this moment wouldn’t exist in photos. Sometimes the best thing a photographer can do is simply step back ands let the people who matter most be part of the moment.
