I’ve been a rental house owner/operator and Gaffer for over 35 years. I’ve seen it all lighting wise; from carbon arc lights to tungsten, HMI, fluorescents and now the LED wave. I bought a new 1-ton a
couple weeks ago, and I’ve decided to take a different approach to what’s loaded. The only lights on this new truck are bicolor or RGB LED lights, and Aputure is the star. There’s an MC4 kit, (2) 60x, (2) 300x w/fresnels & barndoors, (2) 600x/600c w/fresnels & doors, 1200x w/fresnel & reflector set, and (2) XT26’s, along with (2) Litedome 150’s, and (2) Litedome II’s, (2) lanterns (24” & 36”), and a Spotlight Mount kit w/3 lenses. Yes, there’s other fixtures like 3 LiteMats (4, 2L and 1 w/snapgrids), a Godox 400, and (2) Astra 6x’s w/DOP snap bags/grids and a Titan Tube kit w/honeycomb grids, an ART7, (8) 120v power supplies, (4) Ambitful 12” RBGW magnetic tubes, and a NYX 8-bulb kit. There’s also a full complement of butterflies and overheads in 6x, 8x and 12x in addition to a full 1-ton G&E package. There’s also a Honda 2200 and V-mount batteries w/quad charger. The lights will be available on an as-used basis, rather than having to have a DP always provide a specific lighting package order ahead of the shoot day. The idea is to give the DP added flexibility in different situations, especially when there’s no opportunity for a location scout ahead of time. And as a gaffer, it’s nice to have extra tools on hand to expand creativity.
