BURNING MAN 2026 UPDATE: The Man Must Burn

The burning of the man, in stark contrast to the solemn and quiet Temple burn, is a total party vibe. All the art cars surround the man, followed by tens of thousands of people. Here’s a little video montage to give you some idea of how that evening goes. It’s a big night and we wrapped it up just after sunrise. I’ve cut it down a lot. The fireworks show is one of the biggest I’ve ever seen. It’s is a constant barrage for about 20 minutes. man

So, this topic comes up every year and I’ve been asked by several people about nudity out here. Burning Man operates on 10 principles among which, is “radical self expression”. As such, people express themselves in many ways. There are incredible costumes, festival wear, props and yes…. Nudity.

One of the cool things about Burning Man is that your fellow burners will gas you up and cheer you on no matter how you choose to express yourself. It’s actually very liberating to walk/ride around in a town of 80,000 people with no clothes on. I imagine it’s what real freedom feels like.

So, Norman this one’s for you. I know you’ve been waiting for it every day. I’d never want to disappoint you.

BURNING MAN 2026: Friday Update

Friday started off a little messy with an overnight rain. The playa gets really tricky when it’s wet. You certainly can’t ride a bike in it. When the playa dust gets wet, it acts like quick drying cement. You can’t even push a bike through it without the bike becoming disabled. So, we waited it out at camp. The good news is that by 3:00 in the afternoon, it had dried up enough for us to get out into the city to explore art.

Later in the evening, we gathered for a massive party with all the art cars at the Titanic art installation. There were thousands of bicycles parked at a spot in the desert. There are no landmarks to mark where you left your bike. Only the art cars. But they move. So you can’t use them as a location reference.

It took us a while. But we finally found them and headed across the playa to our favorite neighborhood near 2:00 and Sound Garden never disappoints. There is always good music, good vibes and beautiful people. We love it there. We started there and then went across the street to The Playground for more. We brought it all back to camp around 4:00am some time. Today, we do it again.

Did you know Burning Man is a cashless city? We haven’t paid a penny for anything all week. Everything…. Food, drinks, entertainment, shopping, hair braiding for Lisa…. All freely given. Not a penny has been spent since we’ve been here. I love this place.

I’ve had a lot of comments about the dust and how something like that can be fun. That’s how wonderful Burning Man is. Even with dust and rain, it’s still amazing. We just smile and deal with it. You won’t see many sad faces out here. It’s just part of the deal.

We started off dusty last night with what we thought was going to be a simple objective. Jan Blomqvist was set to do a show from the Maxa art car. But we didn’t know where the car was going to set up on the playa. It’s a huge space miles across. Visibility as you’ll see was nil. It makes finding something in the open desert very difficult. But we rode in it for miles and our perseverance finally paid off. David said he heard something in the distance that he recognized. So we followed him. Lo and behold, we found Jan who entertained us for hours. He’s amazing. His music is filled with positivity and good vibes. Check out Jan Blomqvist.

We kept the evening short and made it to bed fairly early. Still recovering from that all-nighter.

BURNING MAN 2026: Wednesday Update

It’s another windy day in the desert today. Wind advisories lasting through tomorrow evening. But this is just a facet of Burning Man. You will not see many sour faces out here.

We got out in it for a few hours today to explore some of the amazing art installations out in the open playa. After a short stop for some ice cream, we found a fallen Eiffel Tower and a sinking Titanic, along with a lot of other amazing pieces, too.

Here’s a glimpse. We’ll see what tonight holds in store for us.

We went out last night with our camp mates, Wolven DT, Amy Millar and Heath. It was dusty out there last night. Winds had visibility down so, we found some music at some pretty happening spots over around 2:00 and C. We danced the night away and met burners from France, Canada and elsewhere all celebrating life. We have a lot more to see. One of the families I photographed last year will be visiting our camp today and we are so excited to see them! I’ll keep you posted.
