As a kid I loved nature and I loved to visit my Granny and Grandpa Jess who lived near the tiny mountain town of Idyllwild, up in the San Bernardino Mountains l
ess than 100 miles to the east. When I was a teenager, I really got into photography, and my favorite subjects were landscapes, animals, flowers, and shots of the stars (the ones in the night sky, not Hollywood). And up where my grandparents lived, at an elevation of 7,000 feet, the night skies there were among the darkest in California. So, when I got my very first camera, a Sears 35mm from my parents one Christmas, I knew where I'd be taking some of my first photographs. I can still remember loading the Kodachrome 400 film into that camera and taking my first Star Trails photograph. But back then, I couldn't afford to buy many rolls of film and pay for processing - working for Kentucky Fried Chicken at the time just wasn't very lucrative for me. Consequently, I wasn't able to take a few hundred shots to get that one that everyone would 'wow' over when they saw it. Then, not long after my mom passed away, I moved to Tucson, Arizona; over several years there, I became the father to four children; three sons, and a daughter. Nowadays, the kids are all grown and doing really well, and I have several awesome grandkids. And nowadays, because the field of photography has advanced to the point that I can take all of the photos I want, and I can process the images myself (and not have to pay for processing), I'm back at it with my old passion. Over the last few years I've created a few images that aren't too bad, and I plan on taking trips to beautiful areas here in the western U.S. Soon I'll definitely be giving my camera a real workout!
