It is not the wrong time.

Not because your kids are wild right now.
Not because your calendar is packed.
Not because you don’t love how you look.
Not because the house is messy, someone is in a hard phase, or life feels too full.

That is exactly why it is the right time.

Because this version of your family is temporary. The chaos, the tenderness, the sticky fingers, the clingy toddler, the teenager who still curls up beside you, the kid who makes every photo “difficult.”

One day, these are the photographs you’ll be grateful you didn’t wait for.

You do not need perfect.
You just need real.

Tucson family photography for the families who want to remember what it actually felt like.

Behind the scenes of a real documentary family session.

No posing. No forced smiles. Just a family playing, laughing, splashing, snacking, and being themselves while I photographed the real story unfolding.

This little glimpse shows what I love most about documentary family photography: the moments that feel ordinary now, but become the ones you wish you could step back into someday.

I’m sharing the first 30 seconds here. You can see the full behind-the-scenes video through the link in my bio.

Video by Gary Roberts of Canyon Creek Productions. Thanks, Gary!

Tonight’s bedtime routine will not always look like this.

The tiny pajamas.
The milk-drunk snuggles.
The way she reaches for her parents.
The familiar rhythm of bath, bottle, books, and bed.

I photographed this 6-month-old baby’s bedtime routine exactly as it is right now, because a year from now, it will be completely different. This stage feels so everyday when you’re living it, but it changes faster than anyone expects.

That’s why these moments matter. Not just how your baby looked, but what life actually felt like in this season.

And the best part? You never have to pack up the huge diaper bag and leave home. I can photograph your family at home or wherever your real life is happening.

These are the moments you’ll miss someday.

What if your family session felt like a real little adventure?

One of the things I love most about a day in the life session is that it doesn’t have to stay in one place.

We can start at home, where your family naturally settles into the rhythms you’ll miss one day without even realizing it. Making food together. Little hands helping. Sneaking tastes. Swinging in the backyard. Riding bikes. The ordinary things that are never actually ordinary.

And then we can head out.

To a favorite trail, a park, the desert, a picnic spot, a place with room to roam, or somewhere your family already loves spending time together. Somewhere your kids can run, dig, climb, explore, get muddy, get silly, and completely forget there’s a camera around.

That combination is magic.

You get the intimacy and meaning of home, plus the movement, freedom, and energy of an excursion. The images feel fuller. More layered. More like your real life.

Not posed. Not manufactured. Not everyone staring at the camera.

Just your family being together in a way that already matters.

Where would you go with your family for an excursion? I’d love to hear in the comments!

Last week my family and I went to San Diego, and we were at the beach when I saw these two families with a bunch of kids just having an absolute blast.

The kids were so completely free and playful, and I loved it. It was the kind of moment I love to photograph. This happens to me all the time… I’ll see a family out in the world and I just ache to photograph them. Like, I wish you knew how beautiful this is right now.

This time, I actually had my camera with me.

So I decided to take a risk. I walked up to the mom and asked if I could photograph them. I showed her my Instagram, my ID, pointed to my own daughter… basically everything I could think of to make it clear I’m not a creep and I’m truly just a family photographer who loves this kind of real, joyful chaos.

And she graciously said yes.

I photographed them right there, exactly as they were. No posing. No “everyone look at me.” Just kids being kids at the beach.

It was a big moment for me — because it reminded me that it’s okay to talk to strangers sometimes… and really good things can come from it.

And if you’re dreaming of a session like this: I do travel sessions. Whether you live in San Diego, or you live in Tucson and you’re traveling to San Diego, or you’re going anywhere else and want your family documented there… I can be there.

This is the kind of session I love most. Real life. Real play. Real connection. TucsonFamilies

Grateful for this award from , an international photography organization. This is an image from 2013 that I’d always liked and hadn’t thought to submit as my focus had been on submitting newer work. I love the pure joy on her face and her dad’s complete presence while he pushes her on the swing.

I’m grateful for this new Fearless Family Photographers award!

Last year in Portugal, the uncle to these two little girls was heading to the airport after a visit. One last squeeze at the door. The oldest clinging to mom’s leg like “wait, not yet.” The youngest already moving forward to meet the Uber with the family outside.

This is why I love documentary family photography. Goodbyes are never just one moment. They ripple through everyone, all at once.

Thank you, Fearless Family Photographers, for honoring this little slice of real life. 🤍

Two photographs. One story collection. Three recognitions.

The first image—recognized by Fearless Family Photography—was made in Portugal in 2025: parents and grandparents around the table playing Yahtzee, one child bored at the table, another barely visible on the couch in the distance. Nothing arranged. Everything honest.

The second photograph, an Honorable Mention from Inspiration Family Photographers, shows a girl looking through a peephole. To me, it feels like a quiet metaphor—curiosity, anticipation, and the act of looking ahead.

The third recognition was for a story collection following three cousins on vacation together across Portugal and Germany in the summer of 2024—shared time, shared history, fleeting days that matter more than they seem.

Grateful to begin 2026 with these being my first awards of the year.

This is the work I care about.
Not perfection. Not performance.
Just attention to real life.
