Beltrán
José Beltrán is considered mainly a advertising, fashion and portrait photographer. Beltrán was born in Guaymas Sonora Mexico, and at the age of 4 began to draw and has never stopped. At the age of 9, he immigrated to the United States in Nogales, Arizona from where he now works to complete his degree. Throughout the years, Beltrán has created pieces of art that have been presented in exh
ibitions in Arizona and Sonora. At the age of 19, Beltrán enlisted in the military [USMC) and took part in the most recent war called “Iraqi Freedom" and "Enduring Freedom". Although a year before enlisting in the military he became interested in music and playing the guitar, he did not have a chance to practice and dedicate adequate time to music while in the service. After four years in the military and with the rank of sergeant, he wanted to gravitate to a career where art played a more significant role, but he was not sure what shape that would take. Beltrán is basically a self-taught musician who took short classes from advanced guitar players and lots of advice and direction from friends and people in the music world. While playing with a band, he began creating designs for advertising and promotional material for the group including, material for the band’s website. Beltrán did a couple of photo shoots of the band when people started to realize that the photos were actually very good. Photography was not something at the surface of Beltrán’s artistic pursuits until the day when his point and shoot camera was stolen and he decided to buy and SLR camera. Having fallen in love with the semi-professional camera after just one time of shooting, Beltrán knew this was the path to a very long relationship. The camera fit like a glove and provided the artistic power unlike any other tool Beltrán has used in his career. From this point on, his interest in the world of photography grew dramatically and very quickly began to center around fashion, style and design. When it comes to photography, Beltrán sees the camera as a tool to create amazing art. He never looks at the camera from a technical side or at rules for taking a good photograph. Instead, he defaults on the side where you must feel and sense the finished product and at times even be able to predict when a good photographic opportunity is right in front of you. Through the lens, Beltrán is always looking for ways to be different and to set him apart from the number of growing photographers. Beltran now has a Bachelors in Digital Photography from the Art Institute of Tucson were he now resides to continue his passion in art. He is mainly a commercial artist but still does pure art on the side. Jose’s Concept in photography;
