Dear friends, clients, and supporters — I’ll be stepping away from the camera for a while to focus on spending quality time with my family.

I beat myself up when I was considering taking this break. How will this affect my business? Will I be a failure? My husband has supported me while I’ve invested countless hours and $$$ into learning and growing. Was it all for nothing? Is it silly to take a break right before the busy fall season? But, it’s what I need to remain present for my family and for myself. So I’m reminding myself, and you, that it’s ok to take a break.

So honored to photograph sweet Paxton and his big bro, Owen. This family is so dear to me, and meeting Paxton from the moment of his birth is an unforgettable experience! Katlyn, new mom of 2, fought like hell before and during her entire pregnancy to bring Paxton earthside. She went through IVF and then hyperemesis, food/smell aversion, and anemia for nearly her whole pregnancy, all while parenting a toddler.

She sacrificed so much of herself to bring forth new life. He’s perfect and precious in every way, and he will grow up knowing just how wanted he was.

Gardening has been bringing my family a lot of joy this spring. Every day, it’s a race to get outside and see what’s blooming, which flowers are turning into fruit, and sneaking tastes of young lentils. We have a very special section called our “Auggie Garden,” which has poppies and sunflowers for our happy August boy. Today was pretty eventful: our pomegranate tree’s first buds of the season appeared; two sunflower buds opened; we have a nest with about 12 quail eggs (trail cam is set up to watch those babies hatch); and we added strawberry plants to our growing list of food plants. Seeing my daughter’s first taste of a strawberry right off the plant was delightful. Wish I had my camera out for it, but I did manage to catch little hands picking all of the lentils.

I’ve been thinking a lot about all that spring represents. I was lucky enough to have two maternity sessions for friends last week, and I love thinking about them bringing forward new life in this season, ready to welcome their new loves alongside the sunflowers, lentils, strawberries, and tomatoes.

You never have to worry about doing anything special, and you shouldn’t have to! You’re tired and learning how to give this new little human your best. Just interact with your new baby, and the love spills out into your photos.
