For generations, Skippers Seafood, a seasonal seafood market has been a staple in the community, known for its fresh seafood, homemade key lime pies, and incredibly welcoming atmosphere. More than just a market, it also features a takeout restaurant serving freshly prepared seafood dishes, with the option to enjoy your meal on-site
At the heart of the business is an owner, Darren, whose story is deeply connected to its success. Having started working there at just 12 years old, he learned the business from the ground up before taking ownership 11 years ago. Alongside him is the current manager, Mike, who has been an important part of the operation since he was 17 years old and has served as manager for the past 11 years. Together, their dedication, experience, and leadership skills have made them both the crucial part of the business’s continued success, helping maintain the quality, service, and family-like atmosphere that customers have come to know and appreciate season after season, year after year.
I was recently invited to photograph the business and document what goes on behind the scenes. Through my lens, I was able to showcase not only the fresh seafood and delicious food they serve, but also the dedication, hard work, and teamwork that go into the day-to-day operation. From preparing fresh catches, cleaning crabs, answering phone calls, serving customers and keeping the market running smoothly, every detail reflects the passion and commitment of all the employees behind the business. It was a privilege to capture the story of a local establishment built on tradition, hard work, and a genuine love for serving the community.
