National bicycle month might be over, but did you know that today is World Bicycle Day? In 2018 the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3rd as World Bicycle Day. Pretty cool right?

With budget priority in the conversation lately, I've been thinking about how I would trim down the trail plan if I had to. Don't get me wrong! I am still advocating for a robust trail plan, but if I had to trim it, it might look like this.

Northlake and Downtown are still connected, but an extra budget friendly option would be a bike lane along Lavista. (That comes with new complexities though.) The Northlake "loop" could be trimmed further if needed, and so could the spur down to John's Homestead.

A downtown-Kelley Cofer-Henderson trail remains minus the lake loop, Old Norcross connection, and "inside Henderson" sections.

A double pronged trail down to the Stone Mountain PATH preserves some measure of accessibility for the southern parts of the city while connecting to the Hugh Howell segment.

Speaking of the Hugh Howell Segment, this iteration stops at Silver Hill.

Once again, this isn't my ideal scenario, but it is a quick draft maintaining big vision items and completing things already in motion. The end result touches each primary cardinal direction, but under-serves many neighborhoods that would greatly benefit from a trail connection.

My last walk audit for now is tomorrow at 10:00 AM. Come join us!

We’ll meet at the west end of Tucker Plaza off Cowan Road, near the Grand Experience Event Center in the same shopping center as Staples and PopShelf. We will walk down a little of Cowan and then down Idlewood to Elmdale and back. 1.43 miles total.

I’ll pick walk audits back up this fall when the weather cools down. We’ve gathered some good information, and I’m excited to pass it along to the city. It has also been great meeting and talking with the people who have come out. It is encouraging to see so many people who care about walkability.

Even though national bike month is coming to a close, the reasons to bike still remain. I am thankful for every ride, conversation, photograph, and opportunity. A safer and more connected Tucker is so possible, and we are building it little by little every day.

Haven't biked yet this month? Don't worry, you still have a few days left. ;)

Perhaps not technically public art, but at least architecturaly outside the norm. Do you know where this is?

Two years ago today I posed my first photo to this account after a parks and rec walk around Henderson Park. How time flies. More good things to come. Stay tuned!

My second of three initial walk audits is happening tomorrow morning at 9:00am! We will meet at the west end of the Kelley Cofer pool lot (in front of the baseball field.) We will walk down Park Drive down to Angie drive and back for a total trip of 0.63 miles.

The old Pizza Hut site is seeing new life. I wonder what it will be.
