When is the best time for grad/senior photos?

Let me tell you, early to mid May is honestly the best time for grad sessions. Everything is blooming, the weather is finally warming up, and you get that perfect “end of school year” energy!

For seniors, sessions usually work best in the summer into early fall depending on the vibe you want. Summer gives you golden light and relaxed, longer evenings, and fall brings in color and a more cozy look.

The examples I’m posting all have the dates they were taken around CNY so you can see what each time of year actually looks like!

// These are the kinds of sessions that remind me why I love what I do. A mix of movement, play, and gentle direction, all centered around doing something you genuinely love. Photographing Emily and Chrys snowboarding and skiing at Labrador Mountain was equal parts challenging and fun. It’s Emily’s first year on a snowboard and she’s already absolutely killing it. They spend so much of their free time on the mountain, so this session was a no-brainer. Being able to reconnect with a past wedding couple and photograph their connection in a way that feels true to them is why sessions like this will always be my favorite ❄️

A winter elopement in Skaneateles for Jackie + James ❄️

As the East Coast hunkers down for this winter storm, sharing these photos felt perfectly on theme. Looking out the window right now, it feels like we’re living inside a literal snow globe, and this day was proof that winter can be just as romantic and magical as any season.

// I’ve been loving the 2025 wrapped trend, so here are some of the couples I had the pleasure of working with this year! I can honestly say this has been the biggest year of my life. From graduating college to moving and renovating our house from scratch, and getting married, this year was completely jam packed. I’ve experienced so many incredible things in just 365 days that it’s hard to put into words, other than feeling deeply grateful for it all. I’m so excited for what’s to come in 2026 and have some very exciting plans for Mackenzie Stevenson Photography that you won’t want to miss!

Ben reached out to me about a month ago to start planning this surprise for Tori, and I find it so interesting how fast you can connect with a total stranger and the next thing you know you’re photographing one of the most memorable moments of their lives.
