Congrats to Michigan. Awesome playing... so proud of you all. Now let's hope the students don't have a repeat of their celebratory riot like they did in 1989. This was a terrifying thing to cover for the A2 News.

Picking 30 of my favorite 2025 wedding photos after narrowing it down from 350 was painful! Don't be too surprised if more of these show up soon!

Nycole and Karly's Winter Wonderland Wedding -

So how homophobic does a state have to be to have a couple and all their friends and family depart from Columbus, OH and come on up to Ann Arbor, Michigan to celebrate their wedding? It's a rhetorical question, but apparently VERY. Like almost all my LGBTQ+ wedding couples this year, Karly and Nycole had legally married earlier this year, but wanted to celebrate with everyone in a winter wonderland. They picked the Strawberry Lake Lodge in Pinkney for the cosy atmosphere, the fact that it could sleep all their Bffs and because the place is just awesome! Their wish for a snowy outdoor wedding was granted, along with a windchill of zero which was not on their wishlist. They said their private vows outside ( with tears and sweetness and chattering teeth) before heading indoors where they did their ring exchange (surprise rings they'd never seen… super cool idea). Not pictured as per their request, are their young daughters. So yeah, you won't see the pics of them with their noses on the windows watching their Moms get married outside, or sitting on Mom's wedding dress during the ring exchange looking oh so bored, or all the other super cute pics that won't appear on social media. What you can see is the love and care Karly and Nycole have for each other. Their silliness, mischievousness and hilarious antics are fully on display. Thanks for making this one so very memorable! Still on cloud nine… and thawing out :)

Julie and Rachel Finally Tie the Knot at Three Cats Restaurant

After 13 years, Black Friday was the day for their long awaited wedding at Leon and Lulu's Three Cats Restaurant in Clawson, Michigan. Surrounded by their friends and family, these two women had their wedding ceremony exactly the way they wanted it. Rachel's three kids took turns walking her down the very short aisle as well as each taking a turn with her for their first dance. Super sweet and thoughtful. There was such a fun vibe to the day with laughter, sing alongs to their first dance and lots of spinning little girls. Wouldn't change a thing!

Kalib and Emily -

Their dream was to get married on the anniversary of their first date, Oct. 30th. Well, that was on a Thursday, last Thursday to be exact. On a blustery day surrounded by clouds and zero rain in the forecast, Kalib and Emily had their "first look" under a tree at the Lazy J Ranch in Milford, MI. Sweet, tender and Kalib made sure to wipe her tears away without smearing her makeup. We did almost all of our photos ahead of time, so after the outdoor ceremony we went for a hay ride (where I got completely covered in hay and everyone else stayed perfect) and Kalib helped Emily switch her shoes out. The guests all signed a kite that Kalib had made the night before, so he took it out for a test run during cocktail hour showing his pro skills by putting the kite right where I needed it. Dinner started and so did the most glorious golden hour and sunset. Love the photos and hope your meal didn't get too cold. Dancing, speeches and it was time to go. But I wanted to end the night under the tree where we'd started out day together.

George and Georgea - Yes, you read that correctly. This couple is so perfect they're only a letter apart. I'm sure that joke has long since gone stale, but this jovial, attentive and kind couple would never let you know. George has waited at least five years for this wedding and he kept a smile on his face all day long. The drama of the day was whether or not the weather would freeze their guests. The sun came out; the breeze stopped and we all enjoyed a fantastic fall Ann Arbor wedding day. Okay, so the other drama was the day of the week. Yes, Georgea did check to make sure there wasn't a home game in Ann Arbor that day, but… she didn't quite get that the MSU vs. UM game was sort of a crummy day to schedule a wedding with her Detroit Free Press sports writer hubby. Because they are both Freep writers, that meant that most of their guests at the Ann Arbor City Club wedding were also journalists, also missing the big game. Only one guest told me he'd looked up the score, but that was it. Everyone had a blast and you'll see the youngest guest (by a lot) spent as much time on the dance floor as Underwood did on the football field that night. So much fun, so much support and love and I was so thankful to be there to capture it all. And was I worried about two of the best photojournalists in the state doing their thing at the wedding? Nah. But you can spot them with their iPhones if you look hard enough.

Celine and Matt's Most Excellent Adventure -

It's always nice to walk into a wedding knowing the bride and groom, having photographed them earlier for their engagement session. It's like meeting old friends again. Their wedding last Friday was at Shelby Gardens with loads of cute kid antics, a dip down the aisle and tears (from the couple, not the kids). With a dash to Blake's Orchard for photos where the locations didn't quite pan out in the 20 minutes we had, the storm on the horizon provided cool drama in their parking lot. Then we all headed off to Blake's Backyard event space that looked amazing and was a fabulous location for a cozy, unique barn/greenhouse wedding. It photographs really well in both daylight and at night. Great staff as well. We got 4 minutes of a fabulous sunset during dinner and then some of the most unique and fun entertainment I've ever seen at a wedding was provided by the Dueling Pianos - talented singers and pianists who can play any request. They are highly entertaining and are great at getting groups to come to the dance floor for sing-a-longs and dance-offs. It's hard to describe how much fun this group had on the dance floor, but the number or pics on the dance floor tell the story. Who doesn't love dancing in bubbles? Huge success, totally unique experience and tons of fun. Thanks, Celine and Matt for letting me tag along on this most excellent adventure.

Soraya and Caleb - Wedding at Grandpa's Farm!

When Soraya and her Dad contacted me about their wedding on grandpa's "farm", I certainly didn't expect this huge acreage that offered hills, a small lake, a vista, perfectly lit fields and was a 10 minutes drive off the road. It was stunning and the perfect location for a romantic, cozy wedding.

What they weren't expecting was a 90 degree day in early October. They did not want to see each other beforehand, so we made multiple trips down the hill to the above mentioned scenic field (hence a huge number of photos there). I love the caught moment when Soraya put out her arms to catch a breeze and laughed when she knew she'd be caught airing the pits. I also loved her fluffing her curls by shaking her head up and down to achieve the look she wanted. NO bride has ever done that before. And Caleb… you can see pretty clearly that he comes by his silly faces and goofiness from his Dad.

We were all in tears between the sweet and spot on wedding ceremony from Justice Richard Bernstein and Soraya's brother's singing.

Afterwards, with a quickly setting sun and all the posed "together" photos to get through, I couldn't believe how much the dock changed within 28 minutes between photos. And that orange glowing sunset we've been having all during this crazy hot October made for a super spectacular backdrop. Add in the full moon and we pretty much had the trifecta perfect wedding day.

Wesley and Jenny -

I knew this wedding was going to be one for the ages. Jenny contacted me about photographing she and Wesley's wedding that involved a cool Airbnb on a lake, their dog, and a guest activity of creating their own symphonic piece with minimal practice and no musical experience necessary. Could there be a more enticing wedding to photograph?

Now let's add the drama. For these two extremely chill, grounded people, there was zero drama except that the weather didn't get memo on the vibe of the day by offering up high winds and unseasonably low temps. Neither Wesley or Jenny seemed at all worried that the most dramatic clouds I've seen in a long time kept circling around us all day. Not a single drop of rain. They are truly blessed.

With amazing family and guests on hand, a limitless coffee truck Say Grace Collective with the best damn coffee I've ever had at a wedding, crowd participation galore, there was one little detail that launched this wedding to the next level for the couple and for me.

As their Regenerate symphony piece drew to its climax and Jenny and Wesley readied to launch a rock (yes, the plop noise was part of the piece), two sandhill cranes flew over the couple. Jenny sent me a note saying they are birds that mate for life and found the experience extremely moving. I agree!

Jenny's only thing on her photo wishlist were photos on the long dock. Turns out during the 6 minutes we spent out there watching the sky turn from purply to gold was just a stunning thing to witness and photograph.

Love, love, love this wedding. I am the luckiest human in the whole world to be able to do what I love doing.
